Pre Match: Manchester City v. Liverpool, 1630 BST (UTC +1), Sunday 10 April 2022 (Premier League)

Tell me you didn’t just pick Foden over Mané…or Diaz or Jota for that matter!?

Anything can happen on the day. They’re a quality team and Pep is a great coach, not a fraud as some call him…

…but I genuinely think that KDB is their only player that would get in our first 11

Cara was talking in the week about him as being City’s greatest ever player, and my initial reaction, as was that of everyone else, to disagree. Like it was a comment relying on recency bias so the reflex is to just say no that there has to have been someone better from their history. But honestly, he really is. Their performances are as strong as as they’ve ever been, and yet man for man I don’t think they’re as good as other recent City teams. Except for De Bruyne. I think his presence elevates a lot of other players in this team. I know he missed a good chunk of their last 2 title winning sides, but last year was a joke all around and city didnt need to be more than 7 out of 10 to win the title, and the season 2 years previous they still had the triumvirate of Kompany, Silva (the not shitbag one), and Aguero on which so much of their modern success was built. I don’t think this version of City is a 90 point per season side without him.

I’m not quite seeing it. He’s obviously very good, but it looks to me like he lingers in possession a fraction too long, and is susceptible to being tackled or dispossessed because of it. I get that he is a progressive passer, but I remember shouting at the TV a few times when he was not finding the target, or over hitting some. Then there was also the back pass where he didn’t notice the player and it easily could have led to a goal - I think Alisson saved it.

If he plays in a three with Fabinho and Henderson I will be happy with that, as they are all big players in their own way, for what will be a very demanding match.

Just offering a slight counterbalance on Thiago, as though I can see that he is obviously a very good player, I see some things to concern me a bit too.

When we bought him I thought it offered a chance for the midfield to evolve a bit more in the direction of Man City, in terms of possession and control in games. For me it has been a qualified success.

I think Thiago has to start as his passing is the type of passing that dismantles city. A Liverpool win, a Liverpool title.

I know this is a long shot, but is there a gathering place for us Reds in Montreal? I’m stuck in this city for a bit and figure might as well go and enjoy this big match instead of hiding inside.

The difference in this Sunday’s match up compared to our earlier fixture at Anfield is then we did not play Trent, our midfield had Jones and we did not have Diaz. City, on the other hand, fielded arguably their strongest side. Now they will miss Dias in defence.
I would attack them to get the first goal. That will ramp up their nerves. Then we can play our counter attacking game.
We have enough weapons in our team to hurt them. Of course our boys need to be 100% focused and no brain farts. And Mo of the early season needs to show up.

I would love it if Klopp played this line up. Bobby can be the CAM with his pressing prowess supplying chances to the front 3.

Most players lose possession at some point and his rate of losing the ball is exaggerated a bit I think. Some of the forum statisticians will know better than me on that.
He waits for the pass, and usually finds the pass. At times his teammates were not in tune, and I think he is better this season because players now move in tandem with him. It was noted at Bayern that the team needed to adjust to him, not the other way around.

He isnt a serial winner by accident. He is a joy to watch and in my view he is central to us winning more trophies this year.

I think Jota has been brilliant so has to start. Bobby and Diaz from the bench later in when they’re fucked

The winner wins the title so this is a must not lose game. A draw isn’t ideal but will keep us just one point behind and there will still be hope. Lose and there’s next to no hope.

They were the better side at Anfield. Ran us ragged first half but we didn’t have Thiago and we didn’t have Trent. Milner played at RB and they murdered us down his side. They won’t be able to attack as freely with Trent there. Thiago can be erratic within games but he has obvious quality and City will fear that. Key player though is Mo. He has been poor for weeks now but his form will come to an end soon and if it happens on Sunday we will win.

This keeps being hyped up as fact, but in my opinion it’s far too early to state that.

Someone best give the other teams we have to play a call and tell them not to bother turning up then.

It’s not a fact. It’s an opinion, like everything else on here. It’s football and anything can happen but these two teams are winning machines. They just don’t drop many points. This is easily the most critical/difficult game either team will play in the run-in and whoever wins is going to have a massive advantage going in to the last 7 games.
