We were facing a championship side team and we let in 4 goals? A lot of questions will need to be asked after that.
Turns out Gomez’s drop in quality is worse than what was expected. Matip is useless without anyone guiding him.
Our midfield trio today had an absolute nightmare that culminated with a sub that was brought on passing straight to an opposing player, and that said LFC player didn’t had the recovery pace to put in a block. Had a block been made, 3 points would have been in the bag.
If someone is blinkered enough to pay 35 million pounds for Gomez/Matip, LFC should bite their hands off! If someone offers 40 million for Hendo, LFC should probably do the same…
Sums up playing that backline to be honest, it’s a reason why since Konate and VVD have been able to play a rotation of games we’ve all of a sudden won them.
A decision has to be made is Gomez and Matip kept to act as a 4th CB and bring a choice behind the first two in.
Different game if there’s something riding on it. A chance to say goodbye to some amazing servants for the club and turn the page to Klopp’s Liverpool 2.0.
Thanks Bobby, Milly, Ox and Naby lad. No doubt a couple more too. No matter the circumstances they’ve been part of the best times a generation of fans can remember.
Onwards and upwards to next season. Some new faces but hopefully some of the old steel and desire too.
Kind of just glad this one is over to be truthful. At points I thought we’d not only need a new midfield but a new manager going into next season too. Thankfully not the case but a lot of work for us to do yet.
Less than an awe inspiring finish to a season that certainly had it’s ups and downs.
New faces are clearly required, at least 4 off and likely more.
Now for next season via the promises and other things that come out of the summer window!
While I don’t think Matip or Gomez covered themselves in any glory, particularly the goal where Gomez just ran away from the attacker for 40 yards instead of putting in a challenge.
But, the player who probably had the worst day was Kelleher. That game would have been 4-1 with Alisson in the net. I’ve seen Kelleher play really well (particularly in the cups last year) but his positioning was all over the place yesterday. Two of the goals would have been really simple for Alisson and a third he probably saves as well.
I think we’d all judge the individual performances a bit different if he’d been in.
