Pre Match Thread : Liverpool vs Leeds United 12/09/2020; 17:30 BST

I’m getting sick and tired of the defensive performance of this side.

Excited to see if we have the focus we so clearly lost after clinching the title back. That can be hard to accomplish with the same group.

But after 2 solid years of being more focused than any other team, I’m betting on Klopp and the lads to be completely locked in again.

Went and had a kickabout early this morning, figuring that we would be kicking off at 10 a.m. EST…didn’t realize it was a 12:30 kickoff. For me, it’s still taking some getting used to that, for the first time in my lifetime, we’re going into a season as the Champions. That said, I agree with JK that we need to attack the new season rather than defend the old…the way he has embraced the history fully (and as a positive) rather than treating it as a negative and sharing the burden with the players is really remarkable and I think one of the reasons he’s been so successful.

Regardless of the result, just remember the last time we played on Saturday, September 12th, it was 2015 and Benteke scored a consolation in a shite visit to the Old Toilet (pun fully intended) in BR’s final month. The title looked about a milllion miles away back then. Pretty remarkable how far we’ve come in the interim.

Everything comes in 3’s - Third time lucky - etc.

So, we are gonna win a third cup this season x2, both the CL & the PL + the FA Cup.

and yes, we are good enough! :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Im with you. For me I think it’s that the off season was too short so it doesnt feel like this is really the start of the season. It feels more like a continuation of the last 6 months of strange almost perfunctory games that dont have much meaning.

Im sure if we fuck up and concede early today though I’ll find a reason to care again :joy:

I’ll call that full strength team! Hendo, kieta, and gini

No Fabinho. Not surprising, bar a few games post restart his form in 2020 has been abysmal.

Trent back. That’s our strongest team I reckon (good argument for Matip aside), feeling a lot more confident now than I was before.

Come on redmen.

LFC line up Leeds: Alisson, Trent AA, Gomez, Van Dijk Robertson, Wijnaldum, Henderson, Keita, Salah, Firmino, Mane

Subs: Adrian, Fabinho, Milner, Jones, Minamino, Origi, Matip. #LFC

Hendo starting is really nice. Personally feel our midfield and the entire team is much balanced and has that drive with him in.

And excited with Naby starting, hope he continues his form from preseason.

Henderson starts, that’s a welcome surprise!
Hope Matip doesn’t trip over anything on his way to the bench, he’ll be out for months.

The best possible team that could be put out.

Really looking forward to the match. It’s been awhile since we played in a match where there was something to play for.

Surprised but pleased that our captain is back. Let’s smash em.

No Fabinho is no surprise to be honest. I thought one of him/Keita would be dropped.

I wouldn’t even be surprised if it’s Gini at 6, not Hendo.

Also, Strujik starts for Leeds. Cooper not even on the bench?

Surprised Hendo is starting but maybe a smart idea to drop Fabinho due to his lapsing in concentration on the ball over pre season. Especially seeing how much Leeds press.

Disappointed Minamino isn’t starting as he played well over preseason and the charity shield.

Need to see Salah get his shooting boots back

Big day for Leeds United, eh? 16 years away. A big pounding to welcome them back.

Hendo!!! Yeah!!! Lets hope for a fully focused performance from the mighty Reds!!!

Brings back memories does this game!!!

No Brewster on bench the other notable. Origi and Minamino.

Fabinho clearly incurred the boss’s wrath against Blackpool and we were a lot better in the second half once he’d gone.

Just to add to the much talked about feeling of unreality with no crowds and not much of a close season, I’m also on the wagon at the moment. Watching footy on a Saturday night while stone cold sober, is completely unreal.

The last I game I remember against Leeds at Anfield stands out because it was the day Houllier collapsed with a heart attack. Rio Ferdinand was playing for them then and their fans were fighting amongst themselves at half time. A nice bunch.

Wasnt expecting Captain hendo to start and Fabinho to be switched. I hope Captain is ok and ready to rock at 100% .

Also glad to see Trent back.

That bench is pretty much as expected. Hope to see Taki at some point.
