PreGame | Newcastle - Liverpool | PL Matchday 24 | Saturday February 18th 17:30h | St. James‘ Park

Newcastle starting front three caused problems. We finally managed a string of passes together in the 10th min, then TAA creating the opening goal witht he pass to Darwin, after a little ping pong smashed the ball into the net.

Cody with another goal, created with a sublime Salah pass. Pope lost his head after initially doing well to get to the ball. Salah in his mind was probably thinking chance gone, but Pope panicked after he messed up.

Outside of the goals, Almiron, Saint Maximin and Isak have caused problems with thier dribbling and fast approach play. Alison has been vital to us.

Need someone to pick up Dan Burn at corners. BUrn is causing problems for us at set pieces.

With R Madrid n Tuesday, I don’t mind shutting up shop and see out a 2-0 win. Have Salah and Darwin as counter positions. Some minutes for Jota and Bobby.

Is this the elixir?

Cant hear the geordies stunned silence after Gakpo goal then.

Fab gives me very little confidence when he is in possession anywhere near our box.
We need more intensity in the sexind half.

Sky desparate for Toon to score

Saint-Maximin and Isak should tire out around 60 mins. Pass the ball about, get our own subs on around that time, then can knock in a couple of goals in the last 15 mins.

I noticed that. They’ve done it three times now. Surely obstruction.

Just got home for 2nd half on TV. Well this is going better than expected .

Clinical great finishes but too open defensively especially with a man advantage.

I think its prudent and probably instructions for us to be more conservative until we can figure out what Newcastle changes after the red card. I expect the half time will be for Klopp to instruct them what are the ways to counter the changes and at least consolidate our position. Another goal will send us 7th. One match at a time. Lets go Reds!

Nick Pope taking keeper reflexes to a new level. Poor man, lol. He is going to hear about this for a while.

As with basketball it all depends on the screening player if he is stationary then all is good

2-0 at the half against a Newcastle team that gives very little away.

Excellent!

We are threatening up top. Nunez is laden with intent, pace, power. I said he would score a couple here and he is doing really well. Gakpo is looking like a good player too, after a slow start coming into a struggling side. Salah should have had a goal and he should have linked up with Nunez better on two occasions. He will probably score but I’ve been a bit frustrated with him.

We are not bossing it but we are winning 2-0, which will do for me.

Ideally we get a bit better control second half and add a third to take the wind out of their sails.

Maybe Milner for Fabinho, just because of yellow trouble? Although it won’t take long for Milner to get a yellow if he joins the fray :joy:

Funniest thing about Popes blunder was when he got up, kicked the ball away and took out his own defender with his follow through. Gold.

Not intending to compare the quality of this team to great teams of the past, but comparing the mindset. I would like to see another goal or two before we slow things down, even if we have a game against RM coming up. We have not been good enough this season to realiably coast the rest of this game.

Good start 2nd half.

Jeeze what a sloppy start!!!

Just finished watching on catch-up. I did a fondue with all that cheese I bought in the Netherlands and misread the Dutch recipe. Think I did enough portions for a city the size of Groningen and I’m currently a wafer thin mint away from going the full Mr Creosote.

Anyway, that went rather well. Aside from the two we did score we actually look like we will score. We are finding space and getting players on the break.

Still a bit hairy scarey at the back. I have to feel sorry for Pope, though. Nothing malicious but he fucked it up beyond all recognition.

Anyway, second half coming up.
