PreMatch | Bournemouth vs Liverpool | PL Matchday 23 | Saturday January 24th 17:30h

After four draws in the league we desperately need a win to calm the whole situation around the head coach down especially because the league games after this won’t be easier.

Bournemouth conceded 41 goals in the league which is up there with the thre clubs at the bottom.

Anything less than 3 points here will be a massive disappointment.

Bournemouth have just sold their best player. Kluivert is injured. Tavernier and Adli went off injured on Monday and Brookes is injured too.
They will have a go at us which suits us far better than the low block sides we struggle against.
I’d bring in Jones for Mac and maybe Robbo for Kerkez.
With Newcastle and City to come we really need to win this.

Understand Jones for Macca but why Robbo for Kerkez, as Kerkez has been a standout over than last few matches, Robbo isn’t at the same level now 1 v 1 and Milo is improving on the ball, wher i thought Robbo looked better.

Purely for rotation, give Kerkez a rest. It’s one of the few areas we can rotate with not much drop-off.

Fair enough, I just have concerns now with Robbo 1 v 1, otherwise no issues, although i’ve read that Brookes is out, has Doak played much as he would be a pain against Robbo.

Hopefully we carry some Champions League form back to the Prem. Bournemouth are a tidy side but they do concede chances and goals, so hopefully we are well placed to exploit that.

Ekitike was frustrated last night when he came off, presumably as he didn’t get his goal. He can put that right against the Cherries!

No Semenyo helps us, as he is a very good player.

Ideally we get some wins on the board in the Prem and solidify our top four standing. With a fair wind and an uptick in form, finishing second might not even be out of the question. Mind you, if we struggle as before, finishing eighth might also be on the cards :face_with_open_eyes_and_hand_over_mouth:

I’d like to see Gomez start again. We looked more solid with him alongside Virg.

I see both sides of the left back debate. Kerkez is coming along nicely, so well played that lad, but Robbo still has something to give and if we are going to rotate, it’s a good back up to have.

3-1 Liverpool.

Wirtz. Ekitike. Szoboszlai.

Evanilson for them.

Bournemouth arrive 15th with 27 points, firmly pulled into the lower mid-table after just one win in their last 13 Premier League matches. While the 1–1 draw away at Brighton last time out showed resilience, the underlying numbers continue to raise concerns. Since November, only Wolves and Burnley have collected fewer points, while no side has conceded more goals in that period.

Andoni Iraola’s system has lost much of its thrust following the departure of Antoine Semenyo, and that loss is evident in both chance creation and transition threat. Bournemouth have conceded 41 goals this season and allowed opponents to dominate territory far too often, particularly against possession-heavy sides. Against Liverpool, they face a team whose matches see more goals after half-time than any other side, a worrying trend given Bournemouth’s late-game fragility.

In attack, responsibility now falls heavily on Junior Kroupi, who leads the team with seven league goals, while Marcus Tavernier (five goals, three match-openers) had been their most reliable secondary scorer before picking up a hamstring injury last weekend. His absence further limits Bournemouth’s ability to attack from wide areas, forcing Iraola to rely on improvised combinations between lines rather than direct ball-carrying.

Defensively, injuries have stripped away continuity. Tyler Adams, Justin Kluivert, Ben Doak, Enes Ünal, and now Tavernier are all unavailable, while David Brooks remains a doubt. With the squad stretched, Bournemouth are likely to sit deeper than usual in a 4-2-3-1, prioritising compactness and second-ball recovery rather than sustained pressing.

The Cherries have still been relatively competitive at home, collecting 19 points from 11 matches, but that record has been built on narrow margins. They have lost 10 of their last 11 league games against reigning champions, a trend that looms large ahead of this fixture.

Glad to see Tyler Adams is missing as he has good engine and is defensively sound in midfield, so hopefully plenty of holes for us to take advantage of

The most important match of the season!
Having now understood that dominating at the price of excitement is the name of the game. Let’s dominate and win.

Well this is a new motley crew…apart from tubby hooper…

Nothing to fear, but fear itself

I like him as a player. Could do with scoring more but reminds me of (a not as good) Firmino type player.

From what I saw, he’s almost the total opposite of Firmino in terms of style.

The aimless questions and evasive answers from Arne Slot’s pre match press conference:

  • Dom’s free kick. How to assess him becoming a leader. Slot was expecting a Mo question! Dom has had a couple of mistakes, but playing well. Free kick was coached. Dom leads by example. Playing with more confidence this season.
  • How different are Liverpool and Bournemouth compared to first game of season? Not too different but Bournemouth have injuries and players left. They have more rest as they didn’t play in Europe. Looking forward to game.
  • Ibou and family. Slot has spoken to him a few times. It is a private matter but player needs time with family.
  • Kerkez and playing old club. He has adjusted to new team. Milos getting stronger in each game and improving. New signings are young and will improve in coming seasons.
  • Mo Salah question. He does well against Bournemouth. Will he have PL start: He played 90 minutes on Wednesday. Trains today. He should be ready to play but line-up decided later.
  • Frimpong: Played lots of games because he was only one for right side. Taking care of him after injury. Has made a difference in 1v1s during last games.
  • Clean sheets: Team has improved. Only conceded >1 xG in one game. Ali has made great saves in games.
  • Is this now the Liverpool style envisaged: Good individual performances. Lots of positives in progress. Constantly adapting throughout the season due to injuries.
  • Transfers, any movements: If there is an opportunity in the market they will move, but at this point no.
  • Gomez: Players will be prepared for the role they are expected to play. Joe can play at a high level without having too many games. 2 days turnaround is a lot after not many games. Will see how he is today.
  • How confident of pushing clear of teams below: Slot is confident but injuries can impact plans. They are very competitive when fit.
  • Team news: Chiesa will be assessed today. Not expected out for long so 50/50. No injuries after game but will assess today. Not expecting new injuries.

TLDR: No major changes expected to squad from midweek. Ibou will be missing along with long term injuries. We play Bournmouth tomorrow.

Gomez is probably nailed on for an injury if he starts , but do we have any other choice ?
