Not sure the refereeing team makes any difference. The agenda is clear - see the non-penalty yesterday for evidence.

With them coming from 2 down v City this just got a lot harder.
They start quick so lets not give them what they want like we did v Forest.
I think Robbo will be torn apart down his side if he starts as brentford are strong down their right.
Amother really tricky games. Need to win if we wanna be champions

With us coming from a goal down against Forest, who had won six in a row and not conceded in about 500 minutes, this game just got a lot harder for Brentford.

I was wondering if this was a new recruit, but it looks like he has a senior position with the FA:

Not being contrary, but can you please explain how this got harder?
Could them going 2-0 down to an out of form City not be encouraging for Liverpool?

Maybe it helps that Brentford are not used to play twice a week.

They’re weak defensively but can definitely hurt us also. Mbeumo and and Wissa both quality players.

Was thinking Wissa could be a decent shout as a Darwin replacement?

Won’t happen but I’d go with

Alisson
Trent Konate VvD Tsimikas
Endo Gravenberch
Jones
Salah Jota Díaz

You have the logic wrong Liverpool going a goal down and drawing to the 3rd place team away means we are shit. But Brentford coming from 2 down to draw at home means they are now amazing.

MacAllister was among our best players last night, and Szoboszlai’s industry and willingness to get behind the ball is an essential at the moment.
Not sure why either should be benched on Saturday?

No one said they are amazing - it means they dont give up and roll over but youd like to think that if we get a quick couple we can kill the game.

Brentford defend differently to Forest, so let’s see if we can exploit some of those gaps. If that’s their approach (going man to man as they did last night against City, so wouldn’t surprise me in a lack of training days to keep it the same for us), because they’re more flexible (though less solid this season) than Forest.

Set-pieces certainly an area of focus, not only defensive, but offensive as well.

We’ll see what their focus is on our defence, so far this season they’ve used Mbeumo in a pretty free role on the right. Can go a bit wider, can go a bit more central. LB will have to be on good level, as well as team mates nearby. Being the better team, you want to force them thinking primarily what happens in the opposite direction.

I think Jota starts here and Diaz probably pushes Gakpo to the bench. Even if Diaz has showed good stuff up top against team playing 3 at the back, that can leave some gaps, etc. It’s one aspect and we need to look at a few different ones. Jota looks ready to go.

I don’t expect a lot of other changes. Focus will be on improving performance and obviously getting a win.

Nunez probably back on the bench, but if there are no injury setbacks of which we don’t know now, with so many players available, someone will drop out. If we keep 3 defenders on the bench, could be one of Chiesa or Elliott.

If they defend like they did against Arsenal we should hammer them. (Didn’t see them last night against City.)

I would say that yesterday probably took a lot out of them also playing midweek removes that advantage they would expect to gain.

Also we apparently look tired yet always seem to show up in the second half which is a bit odd.

It’s like we are using first halves as warm-ups.

In that case, tiredness probably isn’t an issue then, that’s often one of the first reasons for the outside world to think. There are other football aspects that might not work as well as we’d like.

We have 1 injury at the moment and Slot said that the team has gone up a level in terms of physical stats (which is also one part of general freshness). We also had some space between games lately.

Defending needs improving, control in midfield (I want to see more personality in possession from the likes of Gravenberch and Mac) and how we progress through the lines also.

There’s also the factor of teams knowing a bit more how to deal with us, it’s the eternal game of cat and mouse. As protagonists and league leaders, we have to be more stable and unpredictable.

I assume that the plan is to allow our opponents to wear themselves out and then finish them off as they tire in the last half hour.

That would be fine… if we didn’t keep conceding.

Agree with the comments here, would like to see a big defensive improvement, and see if we get get ourselves back to where we were early in the season.

I think a lot of this is getting Konate back to fitness and form. He was imperious early in the season, and he is obviously not going to be quite that yet.

I would go with the team from last night but Tsimikas for Robbo (who is rapidly becoming a bit of a problem) and Jota for Diaz.

Who takes the left wing is a bit of a toss up between Diaz and Gakpo, but I think Cody is in better form.
