PreMatch | Brentford vs Liverpool | PL Matchday 22 | Saturday January 18th 15:00h

Jota a doubt for this with a ‘niggle’. I think we’re beginning to enter Sturridge/Keita territory now.

The most important game of the season since the last one. Anything but a win will mean we have given up (at least) 10pts from our last eight games. That’s simply not good enough , and if does happen then doubts are bound to creep into the players , and Slot’s , heads.

I’m ten times more nervous about this than the Forest game. :grimacing:

Standard

I think the positive thing is that he still seems to trust his body a lot, so he doesn’t shy out of challenges nor hold back on his sprints. Still, if all he misses is the odd game here and there, it’s not a big issue.

Also it’s just a “doubt”, not that he’s definitely ruled out.

He’s already missed 12 games this season, and that’s not unusual for him.

Perhaps it’s not unusual, but I find it quite hard to criticise him over a freak injury like that. If it was recurring issues in similar parts of the body, then I’d be worried. But he literally got bundled over and kneed in the ribs.

I agree
But lets not let facts get in the way of a good Keita/Thiago comparison. Add Chiesa and we have two plus perhaps Konate to deride because of injuries.

Jota injured?

No problemo…enter Darwin.

I still maintain Chiesa’s best comparison would be against Arthur. He was fit for pretty much February onwards, but he wasn’t needed then.

I wasn’t deriding him , I was simply pointing out the obvious. I happen to love the guy and think that he gives us something , that mixture of nous , guile and snide , that no other player in the squad does. I just wish he was available more often.

Apologies
I just hate the comparrisons with Keita etc.
Every player is an individual, all with their own specific difficulties as well as skill set.

Jota’s injuries bear little resemblance to Keita’s in my view. As already expressed by @redalways.

However your point stands, I understand you weren’t deriding him.

To be fair Keita isn’t a terrible comparison, at least superficially. Two extremely talented players who just cannot for the life of then stay in the pitch

Rare footage indeed.

I believe he is a very superficial comparison, except for injury status as in numbers of games missed.

I genuinely believe Keita lacked the psychological strenght of being a top footballer. There is nothing, in my opinion to say Jota is anyway similar.

Obviously we dont know them as people, but for some reason I think Naby and Sturridge are more alike in their frailties.

What no critism, not good enough so here it is.
Repeatedly runs straight into 3 defenders and doesn’t have the sense to change tactic. Still got to love him. :kissing_heart:

Why’d you have to go and spoil it.

Can you not see I’m trying to sprinkle a bit of positivity here!!!

Anyone think that Darwin might even get the nod to start this one?

I think so.
I reckon him or Jota are the best choices at 9.

Salah up front and Chiesa on the right could be fun to watch.

Not expecting it to ever happen based on Salah’s form.

I really don’t get the thinking that Salah is unsubable. I just want to see Chiesa get some meaningful minutes , which isn’t likely to happen with the current mindset. The Forest game would have been the ideal opportunity to let us see what he could do.
