Frankly, I think the possibility is far too minute for them to even consider. It would involve us losing both our final games, and an incredible number of results to line up.
As far as I can see for example, Atlético play Leverkusen, which means that at least one of them will be out of the running, if not both. We just need 4 teams of 10 to fail to pick up points in the next round and it’ll be all over.
These teams are: Arsenal, Bayer Leverkusen, Aston Villa, Inter Milan, Brest, Lille, Borussia Dortmund, Bayern Munich, Atlético Madrid, and AC Milan.
Who is ‘we’? The team or us fans on forums? Us here don’t have any influence on performances and results. The team looks very focused in my opinion, form has dropped a little bit, but I don’t see complacency (we can talk about that Anfield “atmosphere” against United though, that’s for another topic).
Wouldn’t say that we’re taking this -1 game against Everton as 3 points already in the bank.
Maybe some fear it a bit too much. The prospect of still playing them twice this season (in the space of a month and a half), last season at Goodison, Moyes back, Pickford or someone else doing something nasty on Virgil or someone else, etc.
I was speaking about the team in that case (and surely a good portion of fans as well, especially those who will be in that away end), for sure they’ll love the opportunity to win that final derby at Goodison, especially when we’re fighting for something big.
