Prematch - FA Cup 4th Round - Plymouth Argyle vs Liverpool FC - 15.00 - 9th February

A trip all the way down to Devon for Arne and the Boys to play Plymouth Argyle in the FA Cup 4th round proper.

The game will be live on ITV1/STV/UTV in the UK and also on the ITVx and STV players.

Plymouth are currently bottom of the championship and have just sold their top scorer, but there is always the magic of the FA Cup.

Expect Slot to rest anyone that he expects to start against Everton next week. Hopefully, a couple of our academy players will get a few minutes.

Match offcials:
Referee: Sam Barrott
Assistant referees: Timothy Wood and Wade Smith
Fourth official: Sam Allison

Small and cozy

Actually sounds like a decent small capacity stadium:

17,000 capacity. It’s a long way, though. 300 miles and 5 hour drive from Anfield.

I think the most recent update was that he’s back in training?

Nice sunny rainy Devon. Hope the lads are ready for some mud.

Looks quite mild based on today’s forcast:

Can see Bradley starting again at RB and then hopefully Trent is back for Everton. Hopefully Gomez can start with Quansah, allowing us to play Endo in midfield. McConnell might get a start alongside him. Chiesa, Elliott and Jota look like they’ll surely start. The rest will probably be a few seniors not playing the full game and a few other kids in the squad.

Be hilarious if Chiesa starts at right-back…

Nallo’s available for this one, isn’t he?

That is realistic to expect. Gomez is already training for more than a week so he should be fit to start alongside Quansah. If Trent is likely to be ready for the Derby, Bradley will get another start here (maybe Mabaya gets a few minutes at the RB). Endo-McConnell-Elliott midfield should be strong enough, and Nyoni should get a few minutes too. Of course, Chiesa should play the full 90. Jota and maybe Diaz (who should be subbed off early second half) are the other starters.

Probably the most interesting question is who starts in goal: Alisson had his rest yesterday, but should not be overused; Kelleher could be asked to start again, though he just played two out of last three matches; maybe it could even mean a start for Jaros? To me, it seems that the answer is far from straightforward.

I think Kelleher starts again. He started the last FA Cup game and last night so has rhythm, it’s another lower league side and we might not risk Alisson after missing last night.

What’s Endo done to be left out?

Was just about to ask the same. And Morton at right back? Nah.

Or something like that, with those players expected to play against the Bitters taken off after an hour or so.

I wouldn’t start Gomez, even against lesser opposition, on his return from injury. Bring him on in the last half hour.

According to reports, Alisson was simply rested yesterday; he is neither injured nor ill.

He is not long back from a major injury. It makes sense to make sure that he still gets breaks in the schedule.

Thought it’s fairly straightforward that Kelleher would play unless we expect him to pick up more games in the near future?

Cool, didn’t know what was his problem last night. As fans we’re often too protective of players, we don’t know enough and what do they need or want. Rest or game time. Under Slot, there’s less of a pattern in terms of goalkeepers in domestic cup competitions, so we’ll see going forward (and past this season, because we’ll have at least one goalkeeper change). Without overthinking, my guess would be Kelleher stays in goal here.
