I’m currently in a hospital A&E department with very dodgy WiFi. I’ll have to post the presser summary later.
(Edit: not me for once. My mother-in-law had a fall)

You bumped into Chiesa?
Hope MIL is okay!
Hope she’s alright, not too serious.
Hope she’s ok @RedWhippet
Chiesa is unwell, frankly looking at the situation and knowing I’d sit on the bench I’d have a day at home in Liverpool.
Alisson is possible for Sunday according to slot.
Just seen that we’ve drawn City away in the FA Cup.
Wishing mum in law a speedy recovery.
Hope MIL is ok…
Thanks for the messages about my MIL. It’s a broken collar bone, but she is back home at the moment.
Presser highlights from the Beeb:
Slot started with some team news on Alisson and Chiesa: “Federico [Chiesa] felt unwell last night, that’s why he wasn’t training. Alisson was in the session but he felt something towards the end of the session. People looked at it and he decided and we decided it wasn’t good enough to travel. There’s definitely a chance for Sunday. It’s not a big thing but too much for tomorrow.”
When asked about facing Galatasaray again he said: “We’ve already lost to Galatasaray so that tells you a lot. Now, the good thing is we have experienced this once already. That helps. For us, it was new. The whistling is so loud when we have the ball. We don’t just play the fans, we play 11 good players.”
On Galatasaray’s attackers: “[Victor] Osimhen is a great striker, can score in multiple ways but they have a lot. [Baris Alpar] Yilmaz was too fast for us twice in the first half, so a lot of offensive threat and pace. We need to be aware of that and we will be.”
When asked about Liverpool’s right-back conundrum he said: “Have you been a manager? No. I have had five or six different players there this season. Szoboszlai is one of them. We have choices to make and that has not been happening a lot.”
Adding: “If I play Dominik at right back it is because he is the best player for the position, not because we don’t have the options there. The more players available the better because sometimes they get tired later in the season.”
On his gameplan for Tuesday’s game: “We have had the most possession in the Premier League, we usually don’t concede many chances, let alone counters. You need to be well organised. Galatasaray has a lot of weapons, transition is one of them.”
He is “really proud” of managing his 100th game at Liverpool: “It makes me really proud that I have become a Liverpool manager and it is my 100th game. I don’t think I have a bad track record in these 100 games although sometimes you get a different feeling about that if you listen to everything. But it is nice that my 100th game is such a nice one to play.”
On Liverpool not converting enough chances: “We don’t create as many chances from all our ball possession but I watch football and creating chances is not something happening a lot anymore. It helps if a player like Florian Wirtz is back, would definitely help if Alexander Isak was available more. Mo of course not being available when at Afcon, so there are definitely reasons for it.”
But Slot says his side are working on it: “We do a lot of similar things that we did last year, we press, counter-press but teams are organised more and more in the same style, man-to-man over the pitch or low block with 11. It is not common anymore. So we are working on it, it is obvious to everyone we have worked on it, set-pieces have helped.”
Chelsea have port vale
Arsenal gave Southampton
Joke
Time to say goodbye
Jones is Liverpool’s only suspension risk for the second leg, with the midfielder needing just one yellow to be suspended for the Anfield game.
Galatasaray are in a much worse position, though, with seven players at risk of missing the return leg.
Goalkeeper Ugurcan Cakir, the whole back four of Ismail Jakobs, Davinson Sanchez, Abdulkerim Bardakci and Roland Sallai, as well as striker Osimhen, are all just one yellow card away from a ban.
As is Dutch left-winger Noa Lang
Galatasaray vs Liverpool will be refereed by Spanish referee Jesus Gil Manzano .
And then we play PSG in the next round and shit ourselves again?
At this stage of the season you have to go for everything that’s left.
So reading between the lines from the match build up discussion =
Jones starts in midfield, get the yellow card suspension out of the way for the Anfield game (all yellows expire upon completion of quarter finals)
Szoboszlai starts at RB (If I play Dominik at RB it’s because he is the best player, do you know who I am? have you ever been a manager?) ![]()
50,000 hostile fans whistling when we have possession is I could imagine very uncomfortable. All players will be using ear defenders or they can wear their apple AirPods if they remember to pack them.
Florian Wirtz definitely starts because we need to create more chances when attacking.
Gameplan for my milestone century of games is going to be one of the most ugly games ever to watch as all Liverpool players do a Galatasary style and throw themselves down onto the pitch at the slightest contact so as to get their players suspended for the 2nd leg.
Alisson Becker is not allowed to catch any of those heavy duty medicine balls again.
Probably missed a load more additional points made during the press conference, but it’s a start I suppose.
Keeper is obvious.
Gomez Konate VVD Kerkez
Szoboszlai Gravenberch MacAllister
Salah Ekitike Wirtz
Though I reckon its Szoboszlai at RB
Wirtz in midfield and Gakpo on the left
Really don’t want to see Szobo at RB tonight.
And I don’t think we will (at least from the start).
