I hope that Gakpo will be fully fit after the break. The front three works so much better with him on the LW and Diaz at CF.
First and foremost, let’s hope we don’t pick up any injuries during the international break.
And secretly…i hope Jonesy scores…and celebrates in front of the Bitter supporters…
Or is that being antagonistic
2nd April, good grief.
Then again I can’t really lament over a long break we look like we could use.
Fede and Harvey to start, that is all.
You won‘t see them start a game before we haven’t mathematically won the league. Add Endo to that list.
Any list of who has gone away.
I know the Dutch lads have and Konate as well as Quansah. Bonus on this is that they aren’t rushing back from Brazil for a Saturday kick off.
I’m hoping Slot will be having sleepless nights taking it personally about the cup final, and figuring out the way to play vs such an opponent, because with Everton it will be similar with the duels.
For me it’s a pivotal game, because it marks our entrance to the run in. Win it, and it’s a statement.
The players will be galvanized, the fans will turn every next game into a celebration, and because it’s psychological effects is important - win it, and it will be interpreted that we’re back to winning. Lose it, and it will be seen as a sign of collapse, a 3rd consecutive loss is something no one had expected. A draw raises a question mark, to be answered away at Fulham.
I hope we have injured players fit by then, and most importantly, no new injuries.
I think a key part of winning duels is not creating them in the first place.
On Sunday if I had any hair I’d have torn it out watching the punting the ball long or even just heading it back into midfield under no pressure. We as well have just given them the ball back.
We have to take every opportunity to get the ball down on the deck and play football.
Just win and shut up these idiots who are trying to tell us we bottled the season.
If there is an upside, maybe one can be that Jurgen lost his first final with us. Still turned out okay further down the line eh.
League Cup Final against a sportwashing team too.
Still feels as though we let the sort down by letting a sportwashing team win though.
No good time to lose a final against whoever.
Time to focus on the league and prevent potential complications happening on that front.
I agree that this is a proactive way that helps a lot to handle the situation. I’m not so sure it’s the sole solution though, and if memory serves well, I think I remember games where we were much better in duels than others, where duels were part of the opponent’s strength. It would be interesting to see if any fellow poster has a more precise memory of a successfully handled duels-heavy game this season, and what were the tactics employed to ensure that.
One positive is that it seems our Dutch, French and Scottish players/player are done by Sunday night.
Now just have to cross fingers.
I am flying from Singapore for this match. We will win.
Didn’t your record just got broken a week or so ago?
Yeah give me the ticket if it’s not in the Anfield Road as I have a 100% record in the rest of the ground.
I read somewhere recently that before the turn of the year we were winning consistently more than half of the duels. Since then, it has started dropping and in 3 out of the last 5 games we have posted the lowest duel winning percentage of the entire season. Something like 32% and 40% against PSG away and home respectively and again 40-41% against Newcastle in the final.
It goes without saying that a similar winning rate against Everton will also not be good enough.
