Oh yes, we are definitely conceding in this one. I just hope it’s not that *unt Richarlison that scores it.

Press conference:

  • Injury news: Alisson has been with physios. Hopeful in training but not 100% sure.
  • Form compared to last year against Spurs: Big difference but looking forward to game.
  • What to achieve this season: Every single player gets maximum out of every session. (avoiding question about league and cups)
  • Bar was set high last season: Bar is always high at Liverpool. Still in two cups.
  • What is Alisson injury: felt muscle when passing the ball. Minor issue but definitely back against Gala if not Sunday.
  • Chiesa back in training.
  • Isak: Rehab rather than training with team.
  • Next league victory will be landmark (1500th league victory): Players want to achieve something.
  • Gravenberch: Important player for club (hence new contract) has improved and has ability to grow. Model is to sign young players and let them develop.
  • Lots of goals vs Spurs? Different managers so hard to compare. Games tend to be open. Not so common. Expecting different Spurs from a year ago.
  • Expectations to win due to poor Spurs form: We are expected to win all home games.
  • Why are so many players underperforming? Good individual performances come from good team performances. Conceding against Gala changed momentum. Not our best game. We have struggled all season in converting chances. Expecting improvement with two home games coming up.
  • Hungarian question - Kerkez: Played well against Galatasaray but received yellow card. Subbed to avoid red. Didn’t risk as Robbo capable of covering.
  • Why did PL clubs struggle this week in Europe? Only one matchday. Lack of Winter break doesn’t help. Most PL teams were playing away. Still small margins.
  • Rio - minutes and balancing act: Treated Rio carefully so not too much time (stress fractures etc). He could start for us and definitely an option.

TLDR: Alisson may be available. Chiesa fit again. Spuds Sunday.

Spurs are shite, we should win this easily.

They’re fighting relegation, club in chaos, team’s in a shambles, manager winless and clueless.

0-1 to them, then.

Hopefully Ali is fit to start, if not then it’s Mama again.

I’d be tempted to drop Konate, start Robbo ahead of Kerkez and drop both Salah and Gakpo. That’s probably not going to happen though.

I do wish and think Frimpong starts at RB. Probably with Konate, Virgil and Kerkez in defence.

In deeper midfield now it’s clear that Gravenberch and a recently somewhat improved Mac Allister will start. Jones still should play more in my opinion, but something could be going on.

Between the lines it becomes interesting, as the other night I wasn’t happy with any of the 3 who started there.

Won’t Romero and Palhina be unavailable due to the rules on concussions?

So with their injury crisis and the way they’re playing, we should win this easily.

I don’t actually believe that of course.

It is the unavailable XI (although Romero and Palhinha are not ruled out yet, we’ll hear what Tudor says).

I genuinely have a form of dread about this game, a hint of Northampton Town perhaps.

Tudor confirmed that both Romero and Palhinha are out.

Another update is that Gallagher has some fever, but will probably make it.

I think it’ll be a blood and thunder approach - similar to the first game but more, well, blood and thunder…

edit - Wirtz and Frim to sit out as a precaution??..

Guess we are winning this one because they are missing 13 players.

Some early team news for us.

Salah & Gakpo both start.

You can never demand a result in football. It’s a funny old game as they say.

However, these are in absolute disarray. They seem to hate the new manager. He hasn’t improved them a jot, in fact they are worse if anything. They are without half their 1st team squad through injury and suspension.

The top and bottom of it is this, if we somehow fail to beat these on Sunday it will be just about our worst result in recent history given the circumstances. I don’t think that’s any exaggeration. It will be fucking catastrophic and should lead to serious decisions being made.

The plot thins…

It’s got Wolves written all over it.

It would not come as a great surprise to me if we were to lose to Spurs Sunday.

You would think playing a relegation threatened side, currently 6 games deep into there worst losing streak, a manager they seem to hate with half the side injured, coming to fortress Anfield, would bring massive confidence to this TAN group right? Not so far.

The two points in the middle jumped out at me initially.

Gutted to hear that Isak is still in the rehab recovery and not yet ready to train. Hoping he gets back involved before season ends.

And also this numbers thing again about landmarks and even numbers, it’s utter nonsense! I was drawn to the Slots 100 stats when that cropped up and I don’t think he’s actually done that bad when you analyse it overall. But the sport is not Cricket, where a century actually means something. If the club is bringing up the number 1500 to suggest the players are motivated to get to that new milestone, then I’m not having it.

If you cannot destroy the shittest team in the premier league right now bearing in mind your league finish as a player this season pretty much decides your future playing time, then just phone in sick and let next squad player take your place.
