Chances of this still going to happen on Saturday?
She should at least once in her life go sit in the kop and cheer with the crowd.
I don’t think so tbh
It would seem very anachronistic to cancel public events for a royal death - today, to be sure, but an entire weekend? I would have thought public gatherings would be a natural venue to express national mourning, perhaps a moment of silence.
It will definitely be cancelled. Blessing in disguise for us I reckon.
Welcome to Great Britain.
I have no idea what the protocol in the UK is
Just saw that she actually died, didn’t know that. I read today that she was sick, but wow that news escalated quickly. Games 100% off.
When the Duke passed last year was it? I can’t recall any games being called off.
Anyhow probably a blessing, the country should rightfully be given approximately 6-7 months to mourn this tragedy.
So on that note, a null and void is a must.
I think the 3 pm kickoffs were moved to avoid conflict with his funeral.
I remember the game was canceled after the death of Dianna, and strictly speaking she was no longer royalty. I think it’s safe to assume that someone that is without a doubt, seen in a greater light, would be afforded even more. It’s got nothing todo with how much you like or dislike the monarchy. I’m ambivalent to the royal family, but can see what an impact she has had over the past 70 years.
We will know soon enough
Probably half the British people don’t know Dutch, deaths in the Royals happen very few times in peoples life times.
Remember this is the countries head of state. I don’t care about monarchy but these things pause life and it’s left me a bit emotion.
It is a fairly staggering milestone when you consider how much the world has changed in 70 years, to be sure.
Does this mean United and West Ham wont play their home games tonight?
Yup the fact my mum is in her 70s and she only remembers the one monarch speaks volumes.
Awkward question, given that it is UEFA that has to decide that.
Manchester United shares the sorrow of the entire nation following the announcement from Buckingham Palace on the passing of Her Majesty, The Queen.
The club recognises her immense contribution to public life, including sport, both here in the United Kingdom, across the Commonwealth, and around the world.
Everyone connected with Manchester United joins the wider football family in sending our deepest condolences and heartfelt sympathy to The Royal Family.
Tonight’s match
Following direction from the FA and UEFA, tonight’s UEFA Europa League fixture against Real Sociedad will take place as planned at Old Trafford.
A minute’s silence will be held before kick-off which will allow the teams, match officials and everyone in attendance to pay their respects to Her Majesty, The Queen. Both teams will wear black armbands and the flags at Old Trafford will fly at half-mast as a sign of our utmost respect.
Seems reasonable.
