Who is Amara Nallo? The Liverpool teenage sensation set to make his debut vs Southampton
Amara Nallo has been called-up to Arne Slot’s first team squad for the Reds’ clash against Southampton, and he could be in line to make his debut.
With a shortage of defenders available for the Liverpool head coach after injuries ruled out Conor Bradley, Ibrahima Konate and Kostas Tsimikas, the 18-year-old youngster had been named in the Liverpool squad at St James’ Park against Newcastle United earlier this month.
Back then, he didn’t get on the pitch. However, now with a further suspension to Andy Robertson, there is a good chance he will make his debut against Southampton in the League Cup.
Who is Amara Nallo?
Nallo was signed by Liverpool as a 16-year-old after catching the eye at West Ham United back in the summer of 2023.
He was signed at the same time as Trey Nyoni, who is also in the squad against Newcastle.
Initially joining the club’s U18 side, Nallo has since been promoted to the U21s and has recently earned the captain’s armband for both the U21 team and the U19 team, who play in the UEFA Youth League.
He is predominantly a centre-back who is very composed on the ball and has impressive numbers this season.
His numbers have been very good this season, too. According to Wyscout, he has won 73.1% of his defensive duels and 63.3% of his aerial duels. Meanwhile he also averages 3.77 interceptions and 11.58 recoveries per 90.
One of his biggest strengths is his ability on the ball. Nallo is very comfortable in possession and has 92.1% pass completion rate this season.
That’s something that should help him settle into Liverpool much easier considering Slot is very keen on using defenders who are able to progress the ball quickly and effectively into dangerous forward territories.
Considered as one of the club’s brightest young prospects in the academy, this current injury crisis could be a huge opportunity for Nallo to make his mark in the first team.
wheres the money we saved on not having to buy defenders john?
Ahem… I’m Greek, it’s in our culture and in our education…
Dude, don’t embarrass yourself like this.
The usual bullshit about this trophy and is so called lack of relevance to top clubs.
In the last twenty years it has been won only three times by clubs outside the “big six”.
In the last ten years it has only been won by City, Utd, Chelsea and Liverpool.
Hardly the stuff of clubs not giving a fuck?
Any club that wins this trophy will celebrate it.
Of course its an opportunity to blood young players or to rest established players.
But its still a cup.
Still features on the trophy wall.
Anyone questioning the relevance of that to such a great club as Liverpool doesn’t understand the idea of existing to win.
I for one will always remember when Klopp’s Kindergarten won the cup.
And yes, I was tempted to add the word Kop in there until I realised I probably shouldn’t.
Fuck’s sake I’ve just realised we are playing away. Why is the thread title wrong?
FFS @Sithbare get a grip.
It’s definitely worth more than the Community/Charity Shield.
I think we can all agree that there’s a hierarchy of cups we can win (in a normal season) and this one is 4th. I’d throw the FA Cup final if we had an injury crisis and had to win the next game to win the league. This isn’t the case here. We have a good strong team, lots of choice so should do well and I do hope we do.
It’s a funny thing. When we don’t play lots of games and lose, we’ve lost our rhythm and need to play regularly. When we have lots of games and lose, the players are tired. Odd that.
@cynicaloldgit We’re not going to win the league because of the refs? Wow, looking forward to Slotting that one into the “Liverpool win the league 24/25” thread. I have a poor memory for games but I know we’ve dodged several stone cold penalties of late.
Can we win all 4? Absolutely yes, if injuries are kind and the ball runs for us. I smashed a left foot volley a mile off target last night, hit one of their players and rolled in. Luck will always play a part, both good and bad. Beachball anybody?
Yep. Just like in 2013-14, 2018-19, 2021-22 and last season.
Guilty.
You probably will have to get up at 7am anyway. Big deal.
Because it’s not a priority for small clubs either. It’s much easier for big clubs to rotate without a significant drop in quality. The Carabao and FA Cups are bonuses, not the main targets.
Last season we finished 10 points off the top. If you think that’s purely down to the ref then I presume the earth’s flat and Neil Armstrong was just a good actor?
Not sure there, Fergie used to enjoy waving it about and Spurs and Everton would love to win it. Very attractive to small clubs.
But never forget, it only becomes Micky Mouse once you’ve been knocked out.
