Gomez - Matip - Konate - Tsimikas
Milner - Jones - Keita
Div - Bobby - Jota

Huge number of changes but hard not to. Trent and Robbo looked gassed and Virgil we know is out. Hendo and Thiago both played 120 minutes on Saturday and Fab is injured.

Up top i’d save Mane and Diaz for if we need them. It’s not an ideal front three but it should have enough against Southampton.

Should have some decent options off the bench if we need them.

Trying to get back to Indiana today. I am symptom free and have a doc letter saying I am fit to fly, so hopefully American Airlines and the Dept of Health in Aruba play nicely, and I can fly. I will be in the airport and boarding a plane to Miami and missing this one, although I will try to catch what I can here and there on my phone.

Incredibly, the quadruple is still possible! My suspicion is Man City will have a week’s rest before Villa, who only have a couple of days, and will get it done in fro t of their own fans. But you never know.

On our end we have to make them earn it, which means a win at Southampton.

Changes will be made and the performance will probably stutter because of it, but at this stage it is all about the three points. Ideally we go a goal or two up early on to settle the nerves.

Alisson
Gomez Matip Konate Tsimikas
Jones Milner Elliot
Jota Origi Diaz

The midfield could be a worry with the inexperience, but I think Milner will gee them up and keep them focused.
I expect Mane to get a rest, and possibly share the minutes with Diaz.
If we are doing well, Minamino might feature too.

It’s not ideal, but we have a few knocks and a lot of tired bodies to coax along.

"Been sent a video of the players arriving at Southampton.

No Salah, Van Dijk, Trent or Mane seen leaving the team bus."

Social media chat so who knows if true about Trent and Mane in particular

I wouldn’t hate it. We know Salah and VVD are going to be rehabbing in order to gain fitness back for the weekend/CL final. Trent played 120 mins, and Mane isn’t worth risking, IMO. A front line of Bobby, Jota, Origi with Diaz and Minamino on the bench should be more than enough.

I noticed we didn’t put any pics up of training from Sunday or Monday either. Keeping our cards close to our chest.

I’d be a bit concerned about starting all of Gomez, Konate and Matip. Just seems like asking for trouble to have all your deputy CBs on the pitch at the same time.

I’d be tempted to start Rhys Williams or Conor Bradley and let Matip sit it out (Gomez either at CB or RB depending on who starts).

Bradley could be an interesting one. If you actually look at the Liverpool U23 squad, very few of the regular starters are still eligible for U18 football.

This season for example, the top XI players for minutes at U23 level are - Koumetio, Clayton, Norris, Woltman, Bearne, Pitaluga, Morton, Bradley, Beck, Clarkson and Musialowski.

Of those XI only Musialowski and Pitaluga are still eligible for U18 football. However, go back to last season (2020/2021) then only Conor Bradley and Tyler Morton were in the U23s regularly while eligible for U18 football.

So - long story short. Morton and Bradley both played above their age group last season. Musialowski and Pitaluga have done so this season. Elliott and Van Den Berg did in 19/20.

That sounds about right. All four either came off injured or did 120mins. I’d also include Henderson in that too.

There is sensible precautions and then there is throwing the game

Yeah heard this as well…

So no doubt they will show up.

Alisson
Gomez Matip Konate Tsimikas
Milner
Keita Jones
Jota Firmino Origi

I don’t consider that to be ‘throwing the game’.

Decent line-up that, I’d be ok with that.

Just hope to see Diaz and Taki on the bench

It was reported during preseason that Gomez had been operating a bit in midfield during the training camps.

57 years? That’s a) a stunning achievement and b) sadly horrible news. All the best, fingers crossed mate.

As long as Curtis is there to save the day, I’m not worried. 0-7 @ 150-1 Odds on anything else are unsurprisingly low. Never met a poor bookie.

I was talking about some of the other selections

Sorry to hear that my mum also has lung cancer currently the treatment is going well mind. My thoughts are with you.

Konate Thiago and Hendo played the 120… involved by the looks of it
