Prematch | Sunderland AFC Vs Liverpool FC | PL Matchday 26| Wednesday 11/02/2026 - 20:15

We really need to be winning this if we are to keep touch with top five.

Now there’s a sentence I didn’t expect I would write at the start of the season!

This kicks off at 05:15 here so I’ll skip the first half in which we’ll probably concede a goal due to a defensive error. I’ll drag my arse out of bed at 06:00 to be ready for the start of the 2nd half when we’ll start playing and will be leading 1-2 as we approach the 90th minute. And then …

Better make sure I take my blood pressure tablets.

3-0 win this one. What would be the odds on that. Wirtz with a hatrick and 3 assists. Others to turn up.

It’s a 22h00 kick off here. I suggest that it’s more likely that benevolent aliens land to save the human race at 22h00 than myself managing to make it through the first half.

Fingers crossed for the friendly alien invasion :crossed_fingers:t3:

It’s at 7am here, so no excuse for me to miss it unfortunately

Good thing about this age is that not long after the game, it’s possible to find a few sites with the full replay.

Don’t need it very often, but it’s good that it’s there in case you miss something or the whole thing.

That’s no way to talk about @Limiescouse!

Those are incredibly generous odds given they are unbeaten at home this season. I can’t resist putting on a consolation bet at those odds..

Fucks sake. We have to stop this obsessing over Calvin fucking Ramsey.

I totally get that some of you are looking for sticks to hit Slot with, but having a go at him for not playing Ramsey is trying to hit him with a twig when there are massive bloody logs all over the forest floor.

Press conference summary from BBC Sport:

  • On how he’ll be judged in the summer: “If we don’t have Champions League football, it’s not been an acceptable season.”

  • Slot acknowledged the financial impact of qualification, noting how Federico Chiesa was the only signing possible during his first window because the previous season they were competing in the Europa League.

  • Amid small margins, Liverpool will have to be “close to perfection” to qualify for the Champions League.

  • Slot was “disappointed” by Dominik Szoboszlai’s red card against Manchester City: “That’s not what we like if we love football, but he followed the rulebook and the referees are there to follow the rulebook.”

  • He is expecting defender Joe Gomez, who is a potential option at right-back, to train on Tuesday, but said: “If he’s not ready to start, then we are missing four players in that position.”

  • On conceding late goals: “The late goals in extra time is far more than usual - is that bad luck or us? That is something we can find out in the next three to four months.”

  • Slot compared how Liverpool performed against City with their display in the reverse fixture, when “we hardly touched the ball”. He attributed this to his players not starting the season ready to compete every three games, though they are now at an acceptable level of intensity.

  • He refuted suggestions that Alisson’s passing accuracy has got worse: “I’ve seen the same goalkeeper this year as last year. The main thing for a goalkeeper is still shot-stopping, by the way, and he does that really well.”

  • On protecting his players’ mentality: “Draws feel like a loss at this club. It’s not easy for the players because they know what the standards of Liverpool mean and they are not performing to those standards at the moment.”

  • Slot says this has been his most difficult season “by a mile”, noting that he has not lost two games in a row in previous seasons.

  • On how he adapts to the challenge: “No-one in this building would say I have completely changed, but it is different next to other seasons where we always did something special. There’s still a possibility that we can do something special this season as well.”

  • On Sunderland: “It’s definitely an accomplishment if you are promoted and do so well. That is a big compliment to their players and manager.”

Literally no one in this thread has used him not playing Ramsay as a stick to bash him with? Even then this “obsession” you speak of probably lies more with not wanting to see a midfielder in the back line again and with Ramsay now being our only recognised RB in the squad, he coincidentally falls into that category.

The logical thing to do will be play Endo at RB.

Slot clearly doesn’t fancy Ramsay at all and with Dom out I imagine he’ll either start Jones on the bench or play him instead of MacAllister.
I doubt he’ll want to leave himself with no attacking MF option off the bench if we’re chasing the game so Jones would fit the bill.

Starting the game with the best possible team we can field is much more important than having a midfielder on the bench IF we’re chasing it. There are different ways to react to that.

I’m not 100% sure, but I think it will be Jones at RB. That is if all the rest is fine, different reasons could lead to Jones starting elsewhere.

I thought in recent weeks he should’ve got more starts ahead of Mac, even if Mac here and there showed glimpses of returning to form (if I remember well, second half at Arsenal he was good when I thought “finally, he’s coming back”). But still hot and cold.
