Prematch | Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Liverpool | PL Matchday 29 | Tuesday 03/03/2026 - 20:15 GMT

Rather unusually, we now have two games on weekdays, with both featuring a visit to Molineux Stadium to play Wolves.

The first is the league fixture. Wolves are rooted to the bottom of the table, but unexpectedly beat Aston Villa at home in their last league game.

The officials for this match are:

Referee: Tom Bramall.
Assistants: Gary Beswick, Adam Nunn.
Fourth official: Adam Herczeg.
VAR: Tim Wood.
Assistant VAR: Wade Smith.

No word yet as to when the press conference will be, but I would expect it has to be tomorrow.

Not the usual suspects, for sure. I think we have had Tom Bramall a couple of times. The last one was at home to Southampton in the League Cup.

The most important match of the season.
We’re still a bit scatty however surely we can get a result against the bottom club of the league, no?

Having looked at their results it’s hard to read much into it. They haven’t been beaten well recently but it’s not what you would call good form. You also have to remember they were gifted that 2-2 against Arsenal.

A horrible , horrible ground to have to go and play at , especially a midweek night in midwinter. Forget they’re rock bottom and already as good as relegated , these fuckers would like nothing more than to turn us over in front of their baying mob.

They are Wolves after all

Please no one start taking about 2017 and 2019, they are already bottom of the league and definitely relegated - knock them right out :joy:

Wait a minute, I’ve jumped the gun, the cup game is the next one :grimacing: - ok time for bed

I was at the 2017 one. Only game I’ve ever seen us lose at Anfield. Also it kicked off at 12 noon which meant like a 5am leaving.

Their fanbase is a shower of nasty, deluded cunts and it will be great to see them disappear for the next 100 years.
As for the match it will undoubtably be another hard slog. There is nothing to suggest the current champions will turn up at the bottom club and turn them over without too much trouble.
I think we may edge a shit game 2-1.

I’m nervous about this one. They have absolutely nothing to lose, although having accepted their fate in the league, they might be planning to ok throw everything at the league game.

Whereas West Ham could not make us pay for our spells of poor football on Saturday, I think it’s more likely Wolves will. They have some decent players and we’ll need to be strong.

Also look forward to listen to people from Wolverhampton singing about the poverty in Liverpool. That’s always an ironic joy.

I doubt Gomez starts two games in four days?
I also doubt Rio starts this.
I don’t necessarily disagree with your thoughts, but its not happening

Frimpong RB.
Other than that, same as Saturday

Out of Gomez and Frimpong, I would say Gomez is probably the lesser concern as he has been training for longer.

Having said that, the prudent choice would be Jones (much as we don’t like playing players out of position).

Joke’s on all of us when Arne starts Ramsay instead.

Arne Slot pre-match press conference (02.03.2026 09:00 GMT):

  • How is Wirtz? No new news. Tomorrow too soon and probably weekend (FA Cup).
  • Foul in Manchester City game vs yesterday: Similar situation. VAR interferes and is inconsistent but doesn’t count it as a mistake.
  • Frustration? Yes, inconsistency causes frustration. We need to be better so that officiating makes no difference.
  • Champions league qualification in own hands. Wolves are getting better. Not beaten by much and are still competitive. Will be difficult game.
  • Playing same teams in 3 days. The second game is more of a challenge because players know what to expect but is also helpful with planning second game. Less of an issue with PL teams.
  • Set Pieces: grappling and holding? Happens with some teams. It is new reality for PL this season. Lots of fouls seen but also some good corners.
  • Are things turning in our favour? Lots of things have gone against us. Well placed now, things can change fast. Expect upcoming games to be difficult.
  • RB Problems: Frimpong now available. Most notable but we have had problems in other positions. Managing minutes better than injured players.
  • Importance of Gakpo goal: Don’t judge players only on goals. Scoring goals is important for forwards and he needed a goal for confidence.
  • His confidence wasn’t gone, but scoring helps mentally with players. Not overthinking what they are doing.
  • Midfield: All teams try to protect middle so rely on wingers to create chances in open play.
  • Joe Gomez can also create at RB.
  • Hungarian question! Dominik or Milos? How to balance games twice against same team. Focus will be same for both games. Difference with two legged ties is we play away twice. Analysis for second game will be partly done by first game. Both Hungarians fit and ready to go.
  • Top Teams seem less able to control games: All teams have lots of money and can get big players. Playing style is hard to control particularly with low block and long ball counter.
  • Has Slot changed approach: All managers change their approach but difficult not to concede throw ins and free kicks. Controlling counter attack is something that managers can do.
  • Reliance on set-pieces in league: Big difference with other leagues is that fouls on keepers not tolerated elsewhere. Not best to watch in Premier League. Competitiveness is good but spectacle not great.

TLDR: No major injury news. Wirtz still out. Two games vs Wolves this week.
