Yeah, I would have said both red initially, but after review, Lamela pushed, then put forearm on Martial’s chest, Martial leans backwards and the forearm goes into Martial’s neck. Martial then reaches around and “hits” Lamela in the mouth. The ref sees the “hit”, I don’t think he sees what happened before.

Well said. Lamela’s is only a red, like Mane’s the week before, if you mindlessly demand “consistency” to the level that has seen the country explode over the stupidity over the application of the handball rule. Lamela’s was a footballing play that made incidental and trivial contact with the opposition’s face. Martial’s was a conscious and petulant slap in the face of the opponent. They are not the same act all. I get that no one wants to see Lamela’s response, but even without that it is still a red for Martial. The fact players react like that is exactly the same as why they throw themselves on the floor in the penalty area when then can stay on their feet…its because the refs dont make the decisions on these issues until they are forced to.

Why not go to the Monitor and look at it again? You cant judge a “strike” from a players reaction. Some will say Lamela was more clever, better at the Dark arts. I say he’s a sniveling little cunt who’s taken advantage of the way the game has gone. I’d bet Jose gives him a Special hug for it too.
