Premier League 2022/23 (Part 1)

I would hope that after she might just have saved our season, no one will boo her.

They will.

Then again they kept cancelling games in the covid season before it was eventually voided so hopefully we can have a repeat.

I personally don’t think 10 days is enough to mourn the death of such an Iconic figure in British history, for me it warrants approximately 6-7 months…we should use this time to cancel all sporting/musical events etc occurring on British soil.

The problem is going to be logistics. Lots of people travelling for games + those travelling for the funeral. Both will require huge police presence, which knowing how heavily the police numbers got cut by the torries they will likely struggle to get the number to cover both needs. Something will have to give.

Or we as foreigners should not pass judgment over British affairs.

This says 10 or 11 days, if it will be 11 it will be a Monday.

Will there be a bank holiday?

The funeral is expected to be held at Westminster Abbey in about 10 or 11 days’ time, with the date to be confirmed by Buckingham Palace. It is likely to be declared a bank holiday, but this will be confirmed by the palace and government.

If a bank holiday is declared, schools will be closed.

It is not yet clear if they will close at all before then. The Department for Education and devolved administrations are expected to issue advice.

Government guidance again says they can play on the date of the funeral but that’s unlikely, seems it will be Monday so we should be clear of that.

Liverpool played Derby 3 days after he died.

Fuck it, just cancel the league cup. This season’s schedule is already a mess and at some point they need to accept its a different season and not think they can still pack in everything they normally would.

I believe it was the funeral weekend that took precedent that year. There was a bull of fixtures cancelled I’ve read somewhere.

Then again back then it was 46 fixtures and they seemed to play every 2 days, Klopp would love that

Agreed. Complete overreaction by the media obsessed snowflakes in the FA. Quelle Surprise.

At least Klopp gets a week to work with the players now and we might actually get some back fit by the time we play again.

Fuck knows where all the games end up going though.

Shit decision.

It’s 1 weekend of fixtures Rab…

The league has survived many more postponements in recent years, before there was underpitch heating any snowdrop would be enough to postpone games.

The EFL play 8 weekends of fixtures more than us…yet their season gets away only a week before us and also concludes a week earlier.

I’m fine with the decision - would have preffered the games to go ahead, but it can’t always be in line with ones own thoughts - got to respect that decision.

Big positive is Klopp has a few extra days to re-invent the team.

The Championship has 8 more games the premier league, yet we still played more domestic fixtures last season than Fulham did. That’s before we consider continental fixtures and international commitments. Championship sides have fewer games overall and because of the lack of concerns over summer internationals get to spread their season over a longer period and dont suffer the same midweek congestion as the Prem does.

We might have yes, Chelsea might have yes.

& the rest? Forest played 54 domestic games last season…Arsenal, Everton Brentford etc played 45.

How is their season spread over a longer period? it starts and ends a week before ours…it’s the same period?

If this lot keep playing like we are I doubt we will have to worry about fixture congestion.

It’s happened, I do think they could have moved the womens league to Sunday and got a bumper promotion out of it. I also don’t think anything below the League need to cancel.

While it is ‘only one game’ to rearrange at this stage, what happens if the funeral is on a game day and we get a second postponement? Just starts to make the fixture list very squeezed and really makes dropping out of the cups more appealing.

Well it’s this weekends fixtures for now. If she is buried next Sunday as seems to be the plan then I can’t imagine any games will be played that day and they may suspend another round (I’ve not seen what they’ve said beyond this weekend).

Also we’re already playing every weekend and midweek between now and the world cup. I believe the next free slot we have is mid January.

Yes EFL clubs play more but how many EFL players from each club will also be off to play in the international weekends and the world cup.

An already packed schedule could do without two postponements. Especially when you consider how much of an overkill it is to stop everything and other sports are carrying on.
