Premier League 2023/24 (Part 1)

It has. They ruled out Utd’s goal a couple of weeks ago. The issue is the cameras are not set up explicitly to do this so they are going on just an eyeball test, and tend to be conservative with overruling given the angles are rarely straight on and that creates challenge given the geometry issue of a round ball I referenced above.

Exactly. Whether the ball was over the line from the angle we all saw is inconclusive for everyone so on that point they made the right call…the foul on Gabriel is a different matter (subjective call) but the majority thought it probably was a foul, I don’t understand why VAR in it’s current form is being used…we’ve only got snippets of how it should be implemented and not the final piece, so the clowns in the room are left to put the jigsaw together which is also probably why we’re seeing 5-6mins taken to clear up what should be a simple decision.

Cracking hit that from Aina.

1-0 Forest!!

The majority thought it “probably” a foul. Lets take that on face value and ignore that you’re maybe drowning out the section of opinions that dont agree with you, you understand why that is not a compelling mandate to overturn a ref’s decision, right?

What subjective decision a ref makes will have a compelling mandate to it for why it should be overturned?

I can’t say for certain is was a foul, just that from the naked eye and the dozens of replays… it looked it or looked moreso than not. I can’t calculate the force of the contact, neither can VAR. Only the 2 people who were involved can give their honest opinions into how much there was.

A pattern of officiating I have seen over the years is that referee’s love to take the decision that’ll lead to the most controversy, the non-penalty awarded for Sheffield Utd yesterday was nothing short of farcical.

What about the handball?

No way the ball went through them without touching.

I have no idea what point you’re even arguing. On the one hand you are not sure its a foul and concede its really difficult to say either way. Yet on the other you think its one of the controversial VAR calls ever to not over rule the ref and disallow the goal.

Newcastle have 5.30pm Saturday kick offs three weeks in a row.
8.30pm in Saudi.

No jigging of fixtures, nothing to suggest a bit of bias towards them fixture wise. All just coincidental.

Whole fucking thing is a very poor joke.

Those aren’t necessarily coincidental at all. No one has ever suggested the allocation of the TV slots is random or fair, it is done to maximize the value of the TV rights.

Oh dear Emi

Ballon d’or stuff right there.

Made that look good for the cameras, Emi.

That wasn’t as far over the line as the one yesterday :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Ok. I get your point, fair enough.

The whole of football is shifting towards oil money…
City
World Cups
Newcastle…

Weird to be celebrating Villa losing, but well done Forest

What a cross from Elliott.

Won all 5 of our home games but only 9 points out of 18 possible on the road.

That doesn’t win us a title so where do we go from here?

Would need a statement win away against City to make me believe again but tbh I’m very concerned that we won’t even beat Brentford on Sunday.

It averages out at about 86 points over the season. The fact that this isn’t going to win a title is a big part of the problem.

Realistically, I’m not expecting us to win the league this season. I think people got very excited because we had a great start but it’s still a team in transition. Where do we go from here? Well, where are the gaps? Do we still need another midfielder? I’d say that we need to look at the defence again. Even with the best will in the world, Matip is probably going to have to be replaced at the end of the season and we need some sort of succession plan for van Dijk and Robertson.

In terms of the current players, it’s a case of them working out how Klopp wants them to play. He picked up on the lack of gegenpressing yesterday and that is something that needs to be taught as a team.

There’s a long way to go, obviously, but Quansah and Chambers may enter the equation. We may not need to spend millions to replace the ageing first teamers.

I’d hope so. Also with Doak as a potential Salah replacement. I mean, in theory, we would want every first team player to come directly from the academy. The big money signings should only be where we have a gap that we can’t fill internally but they do have to be good enough.
