Premier League 2023/24 (Part 1)

That fucking Chelsea draw…

So after all the hype about Arsenal and Spurs - it’s Liverpool who go into the international break 1 point off top spot.

Draws at home against us, Arsenal and City and also beat Spurs away from home.

Fair enough, but I still think we played like shite.

We’ve been shite against Chelsea, Luton and (to a lesser extent) Brighton, and we were robbed at Spurs.

Yet we’re still only a point off the top.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: with equal arbitration, we would win the league.

Imo our performances overall don’t justify being one point off top. Need more games like today.

Secondly and more important. We seem to have a problem on the road. Doubt we will be able to stay in the Top3 if we don’t fix that immediately.

Three of our next 4 league games are away.

Cheaty penalty should have been a Haaland foul before the lightweight defender managed to wrestle down Goliath. I am applauding at how the PL’s ruthless businessmen have found ways to turn dirty oil money into cash. It’s a chemical, turned business, equation scientists can’t comprehend. And the PGMOL is the catalyst helping the PL powerful become the next FIFA.

No; they justify our being top. We were robbed against Spurs, and should have had a penalty at Chelsea.

Huh? Up until our flow was disrupted by the cheats at PGMOL we were regularly clever and incisive. If that Chelsea game is even the second or third match for us we win it handily. We were overly cautious as traditionally it’s supposed to be a tough match. At Spurs we win easily with 11. After that one we took a little hit mentally and Brighton away was part of that. Only Luton in the on e where we genuinely dropped standards in the league. But we’ve bounced back.

To be fair, and while our away form is bad, we’d be at the summit if the PL and their vehicle (PGMOL) hadn’t gotten their way against Spursy.

Wins away at Newcastle and Wolves are very good wins. Draws at Chelsea and Brighton are creditable performances. Only the Luton draw was crap.

Yup you’ve got to compare.

Brighton away will be tough for big sides.
Newcastle away will be also
Wolves went and beat Spurs this weekend at home, they also beat Man City.
Chelsea is well documented above (they do seem to have turned into a team that turns up in the big games).

Luton is poor because I expect most teams will get the points but the games have been narrow, that one to me sticks out because we could have won even how poor that second half was.

That and Spurs which was just robbery. Anyhow what a difference a week makes.

Anyhow next time a fair few tasty fixtures

Bowen is on 8 league goals already!

Very impressive tally, that. Surely his last season at West Ham if he carries on like this.

Totally agree on the game, two footy teams, no matter who they are, playing open attacking football at a high pace

De Zerbi - “I don’t like 80% of English referees” :rofl::rofl:.

The red for Dahoud was as clear a red as you’ll see but Brighton should’ve had a pen for a pretty blatant handball at 1-0. Quite incredible VAR didn’t check it/send ref over to review.

If he gets the Man Utd job he will love them.

Complete VAR fuck up. They said the Sheff Utd player has his arm tucked in but his elbow is clearly away from his body.

VAR pricks creating their own “facts”

This is probably true for most reds as well

Just a very bad call, he turns his back on the cross and flings his elbow out at it almost like a clearance :rofl:

I think RDZ was being kind there.

We deserved more because of refereeing blunders but we didn’t exactly help ourselves with some poor finishing in other matches (open goals against Brighton at Luton, ugh). Suarez missing one at WBA in 2013/14 at 0:1 still haunts me, I have a thing for this stuff.

Also, our away form might be a concern in the long term, though we’ve had some really difficult trips so far. I’m glad those are out of the way since all of Newcastle, Brighton and Tottenham were virtually at full strength when we played them, while Wolves gave us a really tough time and went on to beat Man City and Tottenham afterwards.
