Pickford is garbage though.
He did score a couple of goals himself tbf
Yea I know. Great striker, shite pundit.
Would have been 1-1 with a keeper who had had some growth spurts in his teenage years.
City sit fourth, albeit with a game in hand. They have never garnered fewer points after 18 matches since Pep became manager than they have this season.
With Pep as manager, City have never won the league sitting less than second after 18 matches.
FWIW
In fact, City have never been fourth under Pep after theyāve played 18 matches.
Simple equation win all 19 remaining games we win the title.
Easy asā¦
OTOH, City were eight points off the top at this point of last season. But as @mattyhurst says, the solution is simple: we win all our games and then itās ours!
City is always going to be in the run, even more than Arsenal. Mentally Pep is a far more stronger character than Arteta. I remember there was one season they even won the league after being in mid table during Christmas. They will always be the number 1 competitor no matter how shitty they seem. And despite a mini crisis, they are just 2 points off us if they win the game in hand.
But as everyone said, we win our own games, we take control of the narrative.
I see ManC being 5 points off, albeit with a game in hand.
I also see them having scored 8 goals less and conceded 2 goals more than last season after 18 matches.
To me, the eye test is that they are nowhere near as good this season as they have been under Pep.
Of course, they can still win the title. But I donāt know if Iād rate them as favorites.
They are favourites based on their performance over the last 5-6 years. There is every possibility that they will put together a long winning run, especially if injured players return.
Thereās not much in it though.
Thatās the narrative, but is it true?
The truth is that theyāve on average generated pretty much the same amount of points in the second half of the season as they have in the first half.
I was pointing to their overall performance, not in parts of seasons. They are capable, at any point in the season, of going on a run.
So are we, by the way, but we are still rebuilding, which makes it a bit less likely.
If everything clicks for us; the attack get more clinical, we work out our best midfield combination, the defenders remain fit, then we will be serious contenders.
Anyone who thinks we will win the league is deluded.
We are the best team in the country. Of course, weāre not perfect- no team is- but we would be at least six or seven points clear at the top of the table if we hadnāt been screwed by the refs at key moments.
And the officials are the reason why we wonāt win the title. The evidence is there right before our eyes.
So why even watch?
Fixed
But why watch Liverpool if youāre convinced that weāre going to be robbed of any chance of honours?
Why not just watch a match in the local park?
Iām not saying that there arenāt a lot of hurdles put in front of us, as JĆ¼rgen said after the last game, but itās not impossible for us to win things. We have done pretty well recently.
