Nottingham Forest have written to the head of Premier League referees asking for clarity over Ivan Toneyā€™s controversial free-kick on Saturday.

Forest have written to Howard Webb to ask for clarity on whether Toney broke the rules in moving the ball and the vanishing spray, and whether that is something that should come under VARā€™s remit, when it leads directly to a goal.

Yes it was illegal. No, it is not under VARā€™s remit to get involved (restarts), even despite it leading to a goal. No, neither the PL nor the PGMOL have any power over this. Yes, Forrest know all this, but are being allowed to use it to deflect from losing a game because the game is addicted to VAR controversy
