This is pathetic framing. He is a 19 year old with 1 season under his belt. NO one is making him a priorty, certainly not at Southampton’s valuation and so if he is legitimately feeling this then he’s too high on himself to fill the role he’d been earmarked for. Far more likely is his team know it will be reported uncritically and give him cover for taking more money from Chelsea.
Reporters really need to understand when they are being used.

Yeah but at Chelsea you get to be 3rd choice AND get paid £200k a week.

If Lavia went away feeling like he was our second choice that means the recruitment team must have done an amazing job - there was Tchouameni, Bellingham, Thuram, Kone, Trindade, Caicedo and maybe others looked at first so he should have gone away feeling at best 7th choice, maybe even 9th including the 2 midfielders we did sign this summer before making contact with Southampton
