Romeo Lavia (DM/CM) Southampton

All this talk of chasing is very seductive.

It was an Aldi car park and I’ve asked you several times now to stop talking about it.

@Mascot do something terrible please.

Well, he is called Romeo

Paid release clauses on both.

Paid around 100m for two ready made first teamers.

Doesn’t take away the context. If they didn’t have those clauses, we maybe don’t buy them. There could very well be a really good player available that has gone under the radar, but lets be realistic. Very hard to buy ready made players today.

The release clause for Ugarte wasn’t much more than what Southampton are asking for Lavia and that a lot of people seem to think is a reasonable price for him. Wages wise you’d be looking at £2-3m a year difference between the two of them I reckon.

He wasn’t outside the realms of what we could offer but let other clubs over pay for the likes of Rice and Caicedo. Clubs clearly know whose pants can be pulled down and who knows what they’re actually doing.

True. Not sure why we were never interested in him. Or maybe we were but at some point lost interest once he chose PSG or whatever.

It’s all a balancing act. Maybe we don’t think he’s worth that fee? Maybe we want someone younger. Or perhaps having done the two we prioritised we do need to cut our cloth accordingly to get done what we want to this summer. Could just be that we want a CB and CM but one of them needs to be homegrown or under the age cut-off and he doesn’t fit either criteria.

He’s also a different sort of player than anyone else we’ve been linked to. You can draw some fairly broad comparisons among him, Lavia, and the french kids, but I think the main decision a team would make would be which of those to go after would be which has the right profile for the role we’re trying to fill. It seems likely given the lack of links to other players of his type that our lack of follow through was because after closer evaluation we didnt think he was the right profile for what we wanted.

That can’t be it. It’s gotta be the owners are cheap. Nothing else fits the narrative.

Cheap?

I assume that’s why they waited for Thuram and didn’t blast 60m on a far better but more costly player?

Nevermind far better looking.

This is what we strive for here at LFC!!!

Mate, there’s literally no one here (okay maybe just one odd person) who is saying owners are cheap. And there are way too many people staunchly defending them. I mean there’s such a thing as being realistic. Something can be good and bad at the same time.

Like extramarital sex?

The amount of trouble you’re in is beyond the scope of this thread.

On the contrary there are a fair few who have said that…

I assume we might see movement on this or one that no one really expected if the one of Hendo or Fab go through.

Preferably this. Club has really surprised us with these in recent time.

Could you imagine if it really were someone like Valverde? Mamma mia quanto affascinante!!!

Whatever plays out do it quickly.

Otherwise we are short.
