Romeo Lavia (DM/CM) Southampton

I don’t expect us to sign 2 more midfielders, even if both Henderson and Fabinho leave.

Think there are more chances that a completely new name appears instead of Lavia.

I would expect 1 midfielder (right now, it seems Lavia) and 1 defender.

Liverpool becomes a much better proposition for any good midfielder wanting gametime though.

If Hendo and/or Fab leaves, Lavia alone won’t do it. If we sign one midfielder it needs to be an experienced and quality 6. A Tchouameni type.

If Fab really is going, will this happen?
Presumably Arse aren’t interested any more since splashing 150m this week. Chelsea still looking at 100m for Caicedo, any other suitors?

I reckon this will be concluded within days of Fab leaving.

Days ?. I’ll expect Liverpool to schedule the medical within hours if they are really in with a clear shout of getting him.

Joyce:

Liverpool have been considering signing a third midfielder with a view to recruiting Fabinho’s long-term successor and checked on Southampton’s Romeo Lavia among others.

Yet the 19-year-old does not boast a wealth of top flight experience having played just 29 Premier League games and his £50 million price tag also seemed inflated.

While Lavia will remain on the radar, Klopp and new sporting director Jorg Schmadtke will be forced to broaden their search with a different age profile presumably a consideration.

Too many contenders for the #6 position if Lavia joins. Improve Fabinho with Lavia and keep a 4th choice #6 in Tyler Morton.

Lavia / Thiago / Bajcetic / Morton in that order. Push comes to shove , we can get Mac playing that deeper role as well while Jones goes up.

We do not necessarily need a #6 if we are looking at getting a midfielder. We need someone to fit into all areas of the midfield and provide the energy and pressing as a replacement to Henderson. Of all the midfielders to play for Liverpool, Henderson and his abilities are the ones easiest to get. Someone able to float across the midfield line and still have progressive passing as well as defensive contributions is probably the way to go.

Hopefully this a negotiating tactic. We are probably the most likely to sign him, but will want them to feel that he’s our only option.

Southampton signed Shea Charles for over £10m, a DM from Man City who last season replaced Lavia in the City U21 team, became captain, and was the best midfielder in the U21 PL.

He’s a different profile of DM but I don’t think you can have a balanced midfield with both of them in it.

Makes me think they’re preparing for Lavia to leave.

Could it be that Cheaty is buying him?

They cant until next Summer then get first option for £40m

They could buy him this summer, just not for the clause fee that activates next year

Probably Chelsea if they can’t get Caicedo, my love.

Or decide to weaken us by buying him so as to ensure no one gets benefitted. Even if it means that they have to pay him to be a benchwarmer

Potentially waiting on doing a deal on this guy when we didn’t have the 40m. I don’t buy the other names but wouldn’t surprise me if another name shows up soon.

I hope we sign Lavia as I think he’s a very good player, and could easily go on to be world class. He covers a lot of ground, gets his tackles in, is press resistant, and also proactive in the pass. He looks to get the pass away quickly, which I think will get us on the front foot with all the attacking riches we have.

Ideally we retain a veteran midfielder to help bring him through, and it looks like the Hendo deal has collapsed and he is with the squad in Germany.

Thiago is one to watch. Barcelona and possible Saudi interest.

I keep reading this about him, and all it does is remind me of my linen shirts.
