Romeo Lavia (DM/CM) Southampton

Compared to some of the other deals this summer, Lavia for 50 million is starting look like a snip.

Maguire and Ward-Prowse going for over 30 million each. Sheesh. Pay the man before he wants more for Romeo.

Thing is they now have even less reason to sell.

Exactly. They cant ship all their 11 players and fight for the Championship. Its a very tough league. No news even today. At this rate we aren’t signing anyone in the Summer. Many seem to very frustrated with this transfer saga. Lavia and Inacio should have settled lot of nerves. We already received 50 million and the pair would cost 90 max and there are lot of savings on the wage bill as well.

But in practical terms it won’t make any difference, they were always looking to sell Prowse and Lavia if the prices were met.

which ever side of the fence one sits on in regards to this transfer, the way it has been conducted by us considering our team needs is just shocking. I agree with Joyce, the team is not ready.

Got to say this ‘deal’ doesn’t feel good to me. £10m to £50m after one season getting relegated. Looks like a talent, but there must be better value, lower risk options out there. Would Florentino Luis really be that much more? Although he’s only had one good season as well. Where have all the defensive midfielders gone??

They’re not looking to ship 11 players though. Prowse as an experienced and highly paid veteran was always likely to be let go for a fair offer. The club are willing to let Lavia move too, having already secured someone believed to be his replacement. Their squad is still strong enough to gain promotion - last nights results was largely off the back of playing a bunch of non first teamers,.

We have already signed two. It’s looking less likely that we will sign anyone else at the moment. I think the defence worries me more - especially if Philips goes.

jus a clusterfuck all around to be fair

I’m confident we will be wrapping up a deal for Lavia shortly. I’m wondering how close Quansah is to getting first team minutes if Phillips leaves?

Is it though. Two main midfield targets done without fuss and at decent prices.

The the Saudi’s throw a spanner in the works and we’re on the back foot. We’ll probably get Lavia but it’s taking time because we don’t just want to pay what they want.

Once the replacement for Henderson/Fabinho is done we’ll know what we can do elsewhere.

Yes it’s getting late in the window and it’s not ideal but two unexpected departures for good fees has been both a blessing and a curse. And if Lavia is worth the £50m we may end up paying for him then we’ll want him here for 5-10 years not just the first two weeks of the season.

Why? A couple of weeks earlier wouldn’t have made much of a difference. If you think Lavia would have made a big difference slotting into the team right away then you are probably in for a rude awakening. If he comes, don’t put such high expectations on the kid. He is a work in progress. Fantastic for his age, but a long, long way to go.

We were probably going to require some bedding in time as soon as it was announced that Henderson and Fabinho were leaving. That decision whether rightly or wrongly is going to have the biggest impact on our season. The long-term remains unaffected.

Re: Joyce, other journalists… it’s in their interest to write stuff that is sensational or controversial. He needs to justify his worth with traffic, subscriptions, etc. especially after not having much to report all summer.

We lost 8 players this window and only signed two. The team going into the season does look unbalanced. None of the players are worth what has been paid for them, but the market is what it is. If Lavia is not the answer at that price, then lets look elsewhere. For the amount of money being demanded, this thing has dragged on too long

please explain how signing a very talented player in a position of need a couple of weeks ago would not have made a difference??

Where’s the “here we go”

Because he is unlikely to be starting for the first month or so at least. The current group of players we have will be. If he was a nailed on starter, the £50m asking price would be less of an issue.

He might not start but that does not mean he would not make a difference. He could easily be thrown on in the 2nd half as jones tires from covering for TAA. The DM position is not a luxury for us were we can just pick and choose when to throw a player into the fire. That is why those two weeks would have mattered for a young player to bed in as best as he could.

come on @redfanman, is Nunez a nailed down starter?

We already have options for that.

The usual responds to this is that 3 of them hardly played last season so that we don’t miss them. IMHO that is BS we missed those 3 last season and we will miss them this season too.
