Ronald Araujo (CB) Barca (Loan)

Uhoh. We’ve been here before.

Alternatively, I can, as someone who thinks racism is shitty behaviour, think that someone getting their rocks off to hateful thoughts about a specific group of people is distasteful and not a laughing matter.

Yeah, that would be good.

However if it’s a choice of paying £47m for 29 year old Araujo or £55 for a 24 year old Quansah, I think we can probably guess where the the club are going to settle.

Not that it makes a huge difference, but he’s only just turned 27 and won’t turn 28 until next spring. That really isn’t all that old for a defender, and his experience in big matches (Champions League, etc.) would be valuable for us—especially since Gomez is almost certain to leave next year, too. (So, we are losing both of our senior defenders next year, so to speak.)

So, if he settles in well, it could only be a positive thing—possibly even having both of them.

I wouldn’t be looking at it as either/or potentially, though, but taking into account Virgil will be leaving and in need of being replaced.

Not dissimilar. I’ve no idea about the stats, but just fundamentally, an aggressive defender rather than a more laid back type. Araujo is faster.

Funnily enough, Romero has been mentioned as a possible replacement for him.

Laughing at stuff like this feels like the equivalent of rifling through a pile of dogshit for a stick of gum. I’m just not dumb enough to consider the meagre reward worthwhile.

In the midst of my Friday night delirium when the news broke, I thought he’d get there in time to play.

But this seems more likely.

I always expect these reports to go something like; ‘He landed in the north-west and got straight back on the plane demanding to return to somewhere warm with olives.’

If he wants to see some mountains hopefully it’s a clear day so he can see the Welsh ones.

Very sweet messaging. Nice family.

Good lad. Really hope he does well.

Serious question: they have mountains in Wales?

They’ve got a large hill, about 1,000 metres.

Ps - Just checked. Apparently, anything over 610m is considered a mountain, so the answer’s yes.
