Wages are slightly high but it is no biggie for the club of our stature. No mandatory transfer fee and most importantly, an extra experienced head to learn from for our young CBs and an experienced top flight center back to cover Joe Gomez. Learn everything except the bout of madness from him.
If needed, we can also do what the Italians do and extend his loan lol…

It’s crazy to criticise or even dislike this signing. Barca captain. Plays close to 200 games for them. Team of the season twice. Won the league multiple times. A regular in the national team. And still at the prime of his career.
A loan with no upfront fee for a on field leader who knows what it means to win. Even if he is not our next VVD, he is going to be a good option for our squad.

I have not seen him played much for Barça. As he’s the captain of Barça and Uruguay with some craziness, I think we now have someone who will stand up for his teammates and would have given someone like Martinelli absolute shite for even laying a hand on Bradley. Or am I just projecting his image to someone that he’s not?

Watched him play live when in Barca in 2024.
Barca v PSG CL quarters and he was sent after 20 minutes. PSG then scored 4. Didn’t win the crowd popularity contest but he was lucky that the crowd venom was directed at Dembele.
Unfortunately that meant Barca dragged some 16yo winger I hadn’t heard of instead of Lewa. So I witnessed 20 minutes of Yamal and Araujo.
Happy with the loan and not some outrageous transfer fee. Pretty sure Barcola played as well that night.

I’ve just woken up to this. Complete left field move, which I like. Hopefully, this covers us whilst the two young centre-backs get fit and firing. We have the option on Quansah for next season.

I think its a good signing. We got the defensive cover we desperately needed, and now we have three defenders competing for the spot next to Virg. Ticks a lot of boxes as well with him being experienced, physical and competitive who also seems to be a standard setter in training.
Interesting that we dipped into the loan market, but its shrewd business to get this solution for the upcoming season which we know will be a transition season for the team.

I’m looking at this transfer almost exclusively with negativity (transfer, not the player) but this interview gives me at least some semblance of hope that not everything about it is bad.
I am, however, bitterly disappointed that squad building looks so disjointed. You won’t see any of our rivals signing a player on loan, especially one with a chequered injury history, and hope it will work out. Also, what was the last loan that worked out here? Anelka?

Do any of them have two players on their way back from long term injuries and another who loves a niggly injury in the positions this guy can play? And do any of them have an option on a homegrown lad next summer who can also play both positions?
Way I see this is it’s a try before we buy kind of deal. He helps cover a couple of gaps we have, brings a ton of experience and quality and if it doesn’t work out long term then no worries.
Also Hincapie was on loan at Arsenal last season. Didn’t work out too badly.

While he’s not a player I would have wanted us to sign - for the reasons many have already stated above - I do approve of us using the loan market to address a short-term need.
Positionally he’s perfect - a CB/RB hybrid - but my concerns are over the fact he sounds like a LatAm Lovren.

I just went to check his injury record, and the Transfermarket website is currently out of service. That’s rather meta.
I didn’t realise that he was Uruguayan. Do they have any players who aren’t a bit chaotic?
