I’m not too familiar with the details, but is this more pointing towards a stalemate or are the fascists gaining ground here?

Theyv have been gaining ground the last week or so. The situation is very difficult for the Ukrainians on that front.

They are saying that the barracks housed Wagner Group fighters.

The tide is slowly reversing it seems… this will be a hard winter for the poor Ukrainians…

can’t make steady advances everywhere, all the time. at some point the RU forces had to pick a Rubicon and stick to it. they’ve selected Bakhmut, likely because it’s the gateway to Donetsk/Luhansk crossroads… can be heavily supported from both directions. probably the strongest part of the RU line at this point.

I am on a local mailing list, sort of an informal club. Saw this this evening:

"I know this is a long shot but one of the Ukrainian mother and daughters
that I help just asked admittedly at very last minute if I could help
procure a Christmas tree in the next few days.

Just wondering if anyone would like to do a good deed for the holidays and
help her out because I’ve got an extremely tight schedule with my family
until at least Sunday which is a bit late for her. Ukrainian Niklaus day
is the 19th and she’d like to have it wrapped up before then. If possible
by Friday.

She has money she is just looking for someone who can take her (and
maybe her kid have not worked out details) out somewhere to get a real
tree. She has no idea where to go so figuring that out is part of the
assignment.

Long shot I know - I’ll do it if I can’t find someone else who can. She
lives in the XXX/YYY area."

responses vary around where to find one, and a couple of offers to do it on the weekend. Six hours later…

"Wow! Her amazing 13 y.o. daughter just put the kaibosh on it:

“Hi again!
I talked to my daughter and she is against buying a Christmas tree. She
said that it is very expensive and then the Christmas tree should be thrown
away. It is better to send this money to our army to save our country.
I asked if she was sure. She said yes. That the tree will not bring her
happiness”"

The Russians aren’t going to win this.

I thought this was intriguing. The latest scheme to combat power shortages in Ukraine is sending LED lightbulbs. The German news was reporting that they were sending 30 million out but Zelenskyy indicated that they would need 50 million:

I’m wondering whether UPS would help as well. Presumably they already have them for medical and other critical systems but the potential for keeping them running for days rather than hours could be vital.
