Ryan GRAVENBERCH: 2023/24

Koeman probably wanted to see how Jurgen deploys RG first and foremost, because the flip side, Koeman has not got a clue how to get the best out of players…

He looks to be, but he is not being used as an alternative to Gravenberch.

You look at the players he’s used in the last months or so in orthodox midfield roles and it’s been:

De Roon, Reijnders, Wieffer, Veerman, Koopmieners, and De Jong.

When that is the best you have to call upon, and and you have a young talent like Gravenberch who’s had the last 12 months he’s had and is now trying to get his career back on track, the best thing you can do for your international team is support him as best you can to help him get his day to day football back on track. Gravenberch finding form and being important to us is going to do more for the Dutch team over the rest of this 2 year cycle than showing up for the U21s will do.

National team was decimated by injuries for last break, but Koeman then made some questionable choices.

My point was not focused on what happened in the last internationals. If there is a relevance to the guys who played against Greece being new it only points even more to three not being players waiting in the wings to justify Koeman taking a hard line over a young player so clearly more talented than his alternatives

Correct me if I’m wrong. but isn’t that where we’re playing this season?

United are just a level above us this season. :sleepy:

Your moniker is cynicaloldgit not obtuseoldgit.

Anyway, is Gravy now an automatic starter, or is he still behind Jones?

I’ve said it during the rumours thread. He reminds me of Pogba.

I’ll revise it somewhat , he’s got a lot of footballing attributes that Pogba has but he’s much more of a team player and much less of a showboat.

Also much better attitude and I feared he’d go missing during matches , so far I’ve been wrong. He’s putting in the hardwork as well.

For me, still behind Curtis.

As for his Netherlands situation, I don’t see any big deal.

He was still relatively new up until that point. From his part, he can say that it was a rare occasion where he put his club and life matters first, ahead of U21 football. Not like it will happen often in his career.

From their part, it’s nothing weird that they decided to ignore him (or continue to) for a little while. They had a turbulent summer with that debacle in the Nations League on home soil. Probably wanted to restore some principles. Players are often put aside for various reasons.

That said, Netherlands are a bit like a European Brazil. In terms of sometimes having weird call ups, stories coming out, some players never getting a proper chance, battles of playing ideology, etc. Remember how Seedorf’s international career ended, so stupid.

But I’m pretty sure he will eventually merit international recognition, if his club form improves like it is lately. It’s not like something catastrophic happened.

So, it’s not weird but it is a bit weird.

I’m going to open this up - don’t think we’ve spoken about this fella in a few weeks…

Has he contributed to even one decent phase of play in the past few weeks? He just seems to lose the ball and run into other players. Idk

He was better than the guy he replaced v Newcastle.
