Ryan Gravenberch (CM) From Bayern Munich

Always thought we would finish up with him. Has the physique for the job but could hardly get near the Bayern team last season a and looks good on Utube ( who doesn’t ? ) but struggled to get near the Bayern team last season and had a poor U21 world cup. Looked very low on confidence but only 21 so maybe Jurgen and co. can help him confirm the promise he showed at Ajax.

How so?

Alisson
Trent Konate VVD Robbo
Mac
Szobo Gravy
Salah Gakpo Diaz

And in possession:

Alisson
Konate VVD Robbo
Trent Mac
Szobo Gravy
Salah Gakpo Diaz

As one example.

I’m not saying it would definitely work and have no issues, but it’s clearly a reasonable formation. Alexis played in that position for us already with Gakpo in midfield; this would presumably be a tactical upgrade to that.

I don’t see Mac being the DM at any point. None of the three are really DM’s even if they do operate in a similar position. Both Gravenberch and Mac like to operate on the left side of the field and there’s enough people there.

Not unless we have a formation where Trent transitions into a Inverted wingback in front of the back 3.

Konate VVD Robbo
Trent
Dominik RG Mac
Mo Nunez Diaz

With Gravenberch operating in a slightly withdrawn role compared to Dominik and Mac.

I’m ok with that too. I mentioned earlier in another thread that despite what we’re all thinking, it seems Klopp isn’t too concerned with using a dedicated DM such as Fabinho. Some circumstances may call for it hence Endo.

I don’t know if it will work but it seems the coaches have decided box to box mids and athletic, technical players are what we want. I think it has to do with specifics of the 3-2-2-3.

That’s a good thing

I wouldn’t expect to see him for a few weeks, well he will need to come up the speed with a Klopp system. However he is 21 at the worlds greatest club, the sky is the limit. Good luck to him.

Like everyone else, I can try a few permutations. If Endo starts, it’s easier. We know where he fits. If Endo doesn’t start, we are guessing who plays deeper, and a case could be made for either Gravenberch or MacAllister.

My suspicion is that in time Gravenberch will become a play making 6 for us, but not in the old school sense of being a committed-but-limited player that sticks a tackle on everything that moves.

I think the style of the team will evolve a bit, and we will have good footballers in midfield who can do everything that is required.

It will be fascinating to see how it develops.
