Sadio Mane (LW) to Bayern

Cool your jets. Nobody is calling him a martyr. He gets paid well. But much less than he’s worth in the league. And with half a dozen Liverpool players ahead of him. The club has negotiated with him what they could afford. There’s always this belief from fans that if someone tests the clubs wage structure then they are against the club and the club therefore needs to be defended. But there doesn’t need to be a good party and a bad party. The club has done its best. Sadio has said that’s not good enough and he will look elsewhere. There doesn’t need to be conflict on those points.

Yes, our contracts are heavily incentivised. If we are going by what is regularly reported, Virg 's contract is much higher than the £200-220k if he hits certain performance targets (some of the clean sheets targets would be very difficult to achieve). Salah’s blows out to something over £300-400k if he hits goals and assists. Sadio likely has goal and assists targets, but if its the same 35 g+a target that Salah has, Sadio would be yet to achieve that target at the club (34 his closest). It’s fair to say, the figures we see quoted for our players are for achievable targets (games played, major game milestones etc). So you would need to apply the same for Sadio Mané. Even though it’s unlikely given Sadio negotiated his 2018 contact after both Bobby and Salah, Sadio’s base salary could be the oft-quoted £100k and performance based is what brings it up to £150k. I am not sure I believe he would negotiate such a low wage compared to the others but who knows? Certainly not you or I.

The point really is that it’s anyone’s guess what the actual performance targets are. But if you are seeing 100-150k for Sadio, 200-220k for Virg, 200-225k for Salah, you can bet that they are all either with or without performance bonuses. I don’t believe Sadio is on less than Ox, Keita and Hendo, but it does appear he’s behind Ali, Thiago, TAA, Bobby, Fab, Virg and Mo.

They’re all Man Utd fans.

Genuine question, where could I find this reported with a reasonable degree of reliability? Not saying it’s not true, would just like to see the source(s).

None of us knows what Sadio Mane earns. £150k a week seems the likely sum, from what we’ve seen in the public domain, PLUS we know about the incentive and bonus structure we lean towards, so it is very likely Mane has been making over £10M a year. Quite possibly a fair bit more, given we have been at the sharp end fighting for biggest trophies, so that will bleed over into enhanced endorsement deals and a better image rights cut of the pie too.

So while Sadio has been paid well, we also know he has one year on his deal to go, and we would like to improve his terms. How much more, we don’t know, but I’m pretty sure we would give him a boost if he signed.

But he doesn’t want to. He wants to move on. For fair comp purposes the new deal at his new club should be compared to the new deal we would have given him, and at that point I suspect we would be competitive but slightly short. All speculative though.

The new team will presumably want to make him a bit more of a main man than he feels at Liverpool, where at best he is our third ranked star, and moving forward may slip a little further, depending on who else we sign and how other players we have brought in might grow.

The Senegal fan thing is irrelevant. I’m sure they are swayed by Salah being slightly more highly regarded, so they see their man as in his shadow, somewhat. And then from Senegal as you look to Europe, there are other European giants besides Liverpool. With that said, the 60-70% thing is mischievous, and Sadio Mane is well advised to not hide behind the Senegal fans and instead be a leader, and make the move he wants to make. We are all grown ups here. Well, mostly!

Bottom line, he wants a new challenge, so good luck to him. He always gave his all in a Liverpool shirt, won the lot here, and has been a fantastic player for us. The only thing remaining is the timing and circumstances of the business to be done. We won’t sell for a pittance, and we will make sure a suitable replacement is signed (if we say that is Diaz, we will still sign another forward).

Let’s see if he puts in a transfer request.

Is an official transfer request required?

And if he puts it in writing, presumably at that point he is not eligible for certain bonus or loyalty payments?

BBC reporting that Mane was joking in that conference.

Hey, facts don’t matter!

I think it was pretty obvious he was joking when you see the pictures. The intended sarcasm doesn’t come across in the translation but it hasn’t stopped people being mortally offended by his comments. FWIW I think he will go. He’s not been offered a new contract and it was clear the club were planning for his departure when we bought Diaz in January. I’m not surprised he’s thinking of moving on and it’s better for us that he does leave now and we get a fee for him rather than him run down his contract like Mo apparently is. No need for anyone to start laying in to the guy. He owes us nothing and we’ll be able to continue to remodel the front line with the money.

Its probably more to do with the fact they believe Liverpool favor Salah over Mane.

Depends, Liverpool may say he needs to put one in if we’re to let him leave for the reason you reference in your second paragraph.

I don’t think that’s right mate.

Sadio’s on more than Bobby and Fabinho. He’s par with Alisson and Trent.

Fucking hell this is going to drag on for a while.

I’ve not seen anything to suggest that he has been offered a contract but whether he has or he hasn’t is kind of irrelevant. The club have already taken steps to replace him. It was intended to be for this summer but Spurs interest in Diaz moved it forward to January. I think he’s probably got the message by now. I’m surprised he’s not just running down his contract. It would be financially more beneficial for him to leave on a free, something which is being overlooked by people who are criticising him for apparently wanting to go to Bayern now.

I think being offered a contract is open to the same misleading claims as when making a transfer bid. There will be discussions taking place before either of these types of event that may eventually conclude in a contract (or a bid) once enough of the pieces are put into place.

On Diaz, the club were hoping to do a deal last year, but his club were refusing to budge on price at that point. It was the drop in price when Spurs came to the table that led to us coming back in for him.

Like I said I’ve seen nothing to suggest he’s been offered a new contract. I’m not sure about your second para either but then maybe I don’t spend enough time on the internet.

Bottom line is I think the club will be fine with how all this is panning out. We’re losing a player we’ve already replaced and can use the money to invest in someone else. Better than losing him on a free next year.

Well he’s on international duty until midweek so I imagine we’ve a few more days to put up with idle speculation. Then he may well want a couple weeks holiday.

The Thiago deal was rumoured nearly all summer and only got done 2-3 weeks before the window closed so we should be prepared for it dragging on. Especially if Bayern think they can squeeze us on the fee.

But, if he’s made the decision he wants to move on this summer then I’m sure he’ll want things cleared up as quickly as possible especially if he’s going to be moving country. Fingers crossed we get our replacement lined up and then it all falls into place quickly from there.

Talk is cheap. Unless we wrote something down on a piece of paper, turned it over and then slid it across to the table towards him, then it’s not a real offer and Sadio would be right to treat it as if there was no offer?

My point is that talks usually happen before it gets to the stage of writing things down and making a formal offer. Sadio’s camp and the club will be aware of the other sides thinking. He could treat that as being no offer - but more likely he will consider it as an offer but not matching what he is looking for?
