Based on what? We rejected their first offer out of hand.
The rumours in the media last week were that we wanting Ā£42.5m for him. I donāt know if there is any truth to that and whether the club have put that out there with the intention of refusing offers below that figure, or is just part of the dance that will see the deal done for Ā£30-35m.
Thing is, the club have shown a real determination to hold back from cutting fees and a willingness to let players go on a free, so I canāt imagine that if Ā£42m figure is what the club want for Mane, Bayern would generally expect to pay much less than that.
It makes me think there may be something else going on in the backgroundā¦perhaps involving bids for other players and other clubs for ourselves or Bayern?
What part of rejecting their derisory offer makes you think weāre willing to business at less than the price weāve set?
We were never going to get anything close to Ā£70m for him if he went this summer. Nothing remotely like that. I canāt think of a 30 year old player in the last year of his deal going for anything close to Ā£70m, or even half of that.
Weāre good at the transfer dealing part of things. Weāll get a decent fee for him given his age and contract situation. It wonāt be what he was worth 2-3 years ago but we got 2-3 years extra service out of him instead and will still probably get back something close to what we paid for him having had the prime years of his career.
Probably not. Absent a release clause, the player will look at the financial terms heās being offered as to how much a particular club wants him.
The 21m bid is a joke maybe they forgot to mention Gnabry was also included.
They have basically mirrored the Thiago deal. Ā£20 million plus add ons. I know strikers generally go for more but we have to be realistic about what weāre likely to get. I doubt JK will want an unhappy Sadio in the squad next season. Weāve still got the Mo saga running in the background too which has the potential to get in the way. A deal will be done. Maybe write off some of the money we still owe them for Thiago. Include a few more add ons etc but it wonāt be mega money.
With a generous wallop of applesauce please.
Man United paid Ā£22m for van Persie when he was 30 and had one year left on his deal at Arsenal and that was nearly a decade ago. So whilst we need to be realistic, we shouldnāt be giving him away.
Just because we had their pants down on Thiago doesnāt mean we have to bend over for them. We paid their valuation, time for them to do the same or feck off.
We need more suitors.
Surprised thereās not a feeding frenzy at the prices being quoted tbh.
Its a bit weird Liverpool are rumoured to have put a 42.5m price tag on Mane and Bayern offer half that price.
yeah its really weird.
maybe its a mixture of his age, or maybe some teams think hes run out of fuel, maybe the wage demand is ridiculous, whatever it is, if Bayern were even thinking 21m was around 2/3rds of his value, let alone his actual value, surely theres a raft of teams having a sniffā¦
We bought an injury prone Oxlade-Chamberlain with one year left for Ā£35m 5 years ago. Mane should be going for at least that.
A 24-year old Oxlade-Chamberlain
Shouldnāt make a difference. Mane is an elite goalscorer who is never injured and could play for a good few years yet. Goals cost money.

I guess the same could have been said about Thiago too. For a player of his ability at that price we didnāt half seem to have a free run at him.
There might be different comparisons and circumstances but fucking Juve paid 100mil for a 33 year old Ronaldo. Mane at 30 years old with his performances with a 3 year contract would be worth nothing less than 120mil. Why would he be worth less than half of that just because he only has one year left. As the cliche goes, we are better off having Mane for one more year than 30mil or even 40mil. 60mil and above, worth considering.

Anything below 50 million, then imo itās not worth doing a deal. A year of Mane, Salah, Diaz, Bobby and Jota is worth much more. They can then both go on a free if nothing is sorted at the end of that.
I doubt JK will want an unhappy Sadio in the squad next season.
If Sadio throws a strop as he doesnāt get his move this summer (which I donāt think heāll do), I would bet my house that once the transfer deadline passes, heāll give 100% commitment till the end of the season.
Start the season with the other four, then bring Sadio back in after the transfer deadline. An angry Sadio will bang in the goals.
I thought the same about Thiago but JK had tapped him up and he was 100% convinced to come to us. There was no point in anyone else bidding. It depends on what Sadioās understanding is with Bayern. If heās not 100% on going there but just wants to leave Liverpool then thereās a chance a bidding war could break out. If not then itās a question of trying to squeeze what we can out of Bayern.
Itās a tricky one for the club. They need to be seen to be driving a hard bargain. At the same time JKās not known for keeping unhappy players and the club wonāt want to run the risk of Sadio, Mo and Bobby all leaving on frees next year. A compromise will probably be reached. I donāt think itās as easy as just telling Bayern to fuck off. Lots of factors in play here.

Ronaldo brought in more revenue from a sponsorship/ Commercial point of view.
