Sometimes someone can be so horridly wrong and despicable and deserve the pile on. Not everything is always shades of grey. Some views are very black and white.
Yes, I’m right on this.
I’m just mean in general, I’m not up-to-date with the latest going ons here. It’s exhausting enough trying to keep up with the latest in if Barcola is coming or not.
No-one is claiming he was undetected - on the contrary he said plainly on his profile what his previous name had been.
I wasn’t around for the first time he got banned, but in general the approach to previously banned members returning here is a bit more nuanced than it was on TIA - as I understand it, if their initial offence wasn’t too egregious, if they come back and are on their best behaviour it’s tolerated.
Road-Runner was basically fine until he decided to suddenly kick off in the politics thread, and was banned for it. I think it’s safe to say that after that, any new incarnations will be banned on sight.
We will only have to wait until tomorrow to discover what his new avatar name will be… It will be the one that votes on man of the match in the match thread BEFORE the game starts…! :0)
Speaking of banned users ( I think), dildobaggins or whatever I believe changed his name, and I think I remember other posters talking/doing likewise. Is this a feature that has now been removed or can users still change names or am I AI hallucinating?
It’s interesting that the TIA moderation was decried by many for being too draconian. We try to be a bit more chill and relaxed here and people decry that for being too lenient.
For context, I think something like for every year of this forum’s existence, an average of one ban has been handed down.
I do think more active forum members participate though. You’ve got the stats with you. But essentially this is what a 25 people forum (in terms of active posters) ?
Road Runner brought politics to the pre season thread. Using “left wing” leanings as a weapon to denigrate others opinion. He was 100% out of order to do so. Im my view, he should have been sanctioned for that singular act. He had already got away with enough.
I am a socialist, lefty trade unionist and my political viewpoint will obviously differ to other forum members. Fair enough. I’m adult enough to argue my position and listen to counter arguments. We should all be. But to try and pigeon hole me or any forum member because of political leanings on a football discussion is crass.
Road Runner or whatever he prefers to be called entered discussions to bait, insult and belittle forum members. His permanent banning is the only positive outcome from recent discussions. His presence on the forums was about toxicity and nastiness, and he’s no loss.
The polarising of people’s views is a microcosm of the political landscape accross Europe. The UK politics thread became a point scoring debate and its as well off locked. It was bordering on creating a division that couldn’t be repaired.
I share a lot of football views with @jaffod and @Dane, I probably share some political views with @Mascot …so I stayed out of the discussion because, in my view the real reason we exist as a forum is at risk of being lost. Our support of LFC.
Maybe its an opportune moment to reflect on what we want from the forum?
I, for one want to rant about refs and celebrate our successes and weep at our losses with people I have never met.
If I meet Rambler and Dane and Mascot and Jaffod in a pub I want to talk football, Liverpool.
I don’t want any Road-Runners in our pub though.
The only reason for having off-topic threads is to stop other threads from drifting off-topic. I once set up a motoring thread because a match thread went weirdly into a classic car discussion.
The rule about conduct should apply anywhere: play the ball, not the player.
Have to say, I think the moderating here is pretty spot on.
I´ve had posts flagged, autodeleted, reinstated or whatever, but in general I never really see moderator action in threads, which is how it should be. Not seen any power tripping either, which plagues plenty of forums.
And for a Politics thread I think it´s mostly been quite amicable. Politics chat often gets nasty or even just a bit sneering, unfortunately.
