Personally, I see the punishment for a banning is the loss of your account and the reputation you have built up through it.
If people want to start a new account and start again, there is very little we can do about this. Realistically none of the mods have the to time to scour new accounts and check them against IPs and so on.
If people are sensible, they’ll try and reflect on what got them banned and modify their behaviour, and not advertise they are a banned user. If they turn up with the same user name or the same twat behaviour that got them banned, then they won’t last long.
If you have no political threads, it will seep into other threads regardless, like gonorrhea flowing through a Victorian runnel, and nobody likes gonorrhea.
I’ve learned a lot from the US politics thread and the Ukraine war thread. There are some very knowledgeable people on here and they provide a different perspective to what is available elsewhere.
Yes, I get that and I could say the same. Thanks to those threads I know a lot more about US politics and what’s happening in Ukraine than I would have otherwise. But all it takes is one or two obstinate and highly opinionated individuals to ruin it. That was the case with the US politics thread until one poster in particular was shown the door.
Anyway, I shall continue to avoid the UK politics thread, although recently I had to laugh when one poster on there said “the country’s going to the dogs!”. I grew up listening to exactly that expression from my Conservative-voting, Mail-reading parents. It seems to me that the country is in a lot better state now than it was in the seventies and eighties. Some people just like to complain. A lot.
Agree, politics shapes our lives constantly, even in a totally unrelated conversation it will appear at some point.
We do learn a lot from this talking,Ihave been interested/involved all my life and I am still learning.
Who have thought anyone as loco as Trump would make POTUS,for example
I don’t actively participate in the politics thread simply because the politics in your part of the world looks very different from mine. And also western politics had gotten more like a circus to be taken seriously. But from a discussion point of view, and I know this might not be popular, I just feel that if posters do feel a sense of fairness, there would be less antagonism bar those few who thrive on antagonising people. I say this because while I don’t recognise the rights and lefts of politics because simply there is no such thing here, its very common for me to see that in the politics thread, that right leaning posters to be called out and piled out and called names and when pointed out, the people who do that justified it by saying that ‘fascists’ and ‘hate speec’ needs to be called out. Without going into details, just because you do not agree with it, does not mean its hate speech or fascism. It jolly well might be but if you want a healthy discussion, you label it this way, the discussion stops and it will then denigrate into a name calling session. And to me unfortunately, because this is Liverpool forum, the ‘lefts’ usually get away with that and the’rights’ do not as we can see in our recent example.
So i like the new rules, if anyone start labelling anyone with names rather than a proper discussion, the poster who called names should be warned and I think as long most general posters see that that rule is executed regardless of the political leaning, i think there is a healthy discussion to be had.
Although when you look at the various leaders they are chosen for the wrong reasons, how they come across in public to there supporters or ‘swing’ voters, rather than being good at leading the country.
Here in NZ Luxon is the PM, and is very good at leading the government but isn’t polished with the media and therefore polls poorly.
It’s seems more about glitz and glamour, rather than intelligence.
Which poster was called fascist? Are there fascists or radical Leftists in the world, does that exist? One can use other words to try say the same thing, it doesn’t change much. Is there such a thing as hate speech? Or is it all fair game and free speech?
You guys can turn this into X if you like, enjoy. Enough AI slop is already here.
