I am more convinced than ever that Jack was one of your sock puppet accounts and this is some sort of Warhol style bit

The guy was a twat and the only one I’ve blocked, so personally won’t effect me, but prior to blocking him I know he had a regular habit of pissing a lot of people off,

I doubt too many will miss him

Only Mick is worthy of weilding the ban hammer. The rest of the mods can only muster the strength to weild a banning stick

So if you piss people off you can be banned. What a load of rubbish.

Yes. If your intent is to wind people up, then eventually you’ll be banned.

Feel free to vote with your feet, and go find a forum where the moderation is lighter than it is here.

If you do it repeatedly and ignore the mods when they warn you about it, yes.

Majority of posters on here are smart enough to listen to mods and other posters whne they get told to reign it in, so don’t get banned. This guy just acted a twat even after being warned. He fafo

He was a pain in the hole. Glad to see the back of him

I will not miss Mascot if he goes instead.

But objectively, Jack deserves it and he should have seen it coming. There is a difference between unpopular or minority opinions which get shot down pretty often in this forum but to come on a Liverpool forum and appear to only say all the negatives about the club, you wonder why he even bothered.

The problem is not really pissing off people, there are posters who are pissing me off at times, and it’s ok.

When your posting create a negative atmosphere on the forum and constantly distracts from the discussions, you should either change or leave. If you can’t do the right thing by yourself, then it’s up to the mods.

If it was who I thought it was, they only ever showed up when things weren’t going well for us and then fucked off as soon as they did. I don’t think they were an actual fan, just a troll from somewhere. I just ignored them, but I’ve no problem with a ban for that kind of behaviour.

The problem is that even if you ignore them, it’s hard to ignore the whole noise created by other posters who couldn’t or didn’t want to ignore them.

Yeah, ignore doesn’t really work. I’ve tried ignoring posters I don’t like, but it makes conversations impossible to follow.

Just out of interest though, Jack was as of yesterday, the most ignored poster on the site, well past the point where the forum software gets involved to tell us there might be a problem

He had already had two private messages from me advising that he was annoying a lot other posters with his style, there was a general assumption that he was on the wind up, and he was on thin ice going forward.

So when his first contribution to the match thread was a pop at me with his childish Peter Pan jibe, I’m sorry, but he’s done. He isn’t going to take on board anything being asked of him. He is just going to continue to poke and wind people up.

It’s annoying when people only post when they can be negative, but that in itself isn’t ban worthy in my view. The problem with Jack was that it wasn’t just negativity, it was also antagonistic, and came with an edge of wanting to validate his own opinions, and call out and attack people who disagreed at the time. That’s the kind of thing that builds discord

I hope everyone appreciates that it is incredibly rare that we ban people. It’s just not how it works here. That’s a double edged sword, as people are indulged here to behave in ways that would have never been tolerated on TIA, but that’s probably worth it for the community we have have here.

@rer and @gasband I appreciate the feedback, but it would be interesting to know what you think a Mod actually does? I could give up being a mod, and 99.99% of my interaction with this site would not change a bit. Being a mod is a vanishingly tiny part of my membership here. There is honestly not very much to do, and the site more or less runs itself (from my point of view, ISMF has a lot more to do on the back end tech side)

Very occasionally there is a conversation about a difficult poster, and we’ll have conversation about what to do. Sometimes we have to deal with a report, which will involve approving a post or opting to hide it. We don’t often follow up with any action towards the poster.

The majority of my mod work, when it actually comes up, is getting rid of Spam, blocking scammers and spammers, putting threads in the right section, and generally tidying up. I’m happy to stop doing that, if people want me to stop?

You are probably one of the few people on this forum that I don’t care whether you are a mod or just a regular member or leave the forum whatever. But its just an internet forum, so it does not bother me much as maybe some other members do.

But your job as a mod, in regards to Jack, I fully agree with the decision to ban him for reasons I already stated. What I think of you does not cloud over what I think is a right decision.

The internet has made it too easy for people to get away with being as abrasive and anti-social as possible with next to no consequences.
