Well, is Fury just the best of a poor over hyped generation…
Or is he worthy of mention with the great boxers?
Because I simply cannot stand him I am going with the former, with no evidence to support my view.

This was a great fight with 5 KDs until a KO.
Wilder has proved he has a strong chin but then lost my respect once again after leaving the arena without congratulating Fury.
With this mornings performance Wilder would kill AJ.
I was thinking about this earlier, and I came to a bit of a conundrum.
My personal opinion is that Fury the boxer is one of the best ever. He has everything, but is also able to adapt and change his style based on his opponant, and I think that he would stand up against almost every great heavyweight, except possibly Ali. Fury the person is a different matter as his views on women and homosexuality is totally out of place in the 21st Century, but I can seperate the boxer and the person.
Now compare him to Lewis Hamilton, who again Hamilton the racer is phenominal and will no doubt go down as the best F1 driver in history, but Hamilton the person when starting out was a very cocky, arrogant and smug prick - but as he has grown and matured it does seem to have mellowed, but it is so hard to not refer back to his younger attitude when talking about where he stands amongst F1 drivers from other eras - wrong as it is, whenever I see him compared to the likes of Schumacher, Prost, Jackie Stewart I can’t help be think back to him in his first 2-3 seasons and being a smug little prick. I really struggle to seperate Hamilton the racer and Hamilton the person (and more so Hamilton the older, wiser person from Hamilton the younger)
When you say arena, do you mean the ring and ringside? or the actual arena?
If it is just the ring and ringside, I have a llittle bit of sympothy with Wilder as he could very likely have still been in Lala Land. But if he has left the actual arena without congratulating Fury, then yes, he has lost a lot of respect I had for him
No sorry was talking about leaving ringside.
But still, didn’t look like ‘La La Land’ - waved to the fans and gave fist bumps on the way out.
Didn’t even stay until the result was announced.
That’s poor imo.
Edit: Don’t know what happened later that night of course.
Ah, I didn’t know that he was giving fist bumps and waving to fans - that changes my opinion as that is just wrong to not acknowledge your opponant.
There are sore losers and then there is Deontay Wilder. He came out with some mad conspiracy theories after the last fight, made Fury cut open his gloves before the fight this time, got knocked out badly again and leaves the arena without congratulating his opponent spewing some nonsense about not respecting him. Talk about being in denial.
I don’t look at Fury so radical. Arrogant? So what? He’s quality at doing that. There are good/shit versions of arrogant fighters and good/shit versions of humble fighters. He talks and fights a good game. Main thing is that he gives respect to opponents when it really matters. You can sense deep down he doesn’t want any harm to his opponent. The rest is showbusiness and he’s currently one of the best at it.
I respect him for being so open about his issues (though in one hand I think that’s also his escape for maybe some things he did). I bet much more fighters are doing or did what he did when he was out. We’re searching in the wrong place if we want people without any issues off the ring. Even angel Joshua, with all that mighty PR around him.
Anyway, I’m glad Fury won, because I can’t stand Wilder. Still, it was hard for Wilder to be as bad as he was in the II fight. There was some improvement, more clarity, especially in the earlier rounds. He’s got power, too. But ultimately, the better man won. Fury said it wasn’t his best performance and it wasn’t. I believe as things stand he’s the true #1 heavyweight. Usyk? Up to him to prove it, if he wins the Josh rematch.
When you fight 3 times and with quite some breaks in between them, especially now with both being inactive for almost 2 years, different things can happen. It’s high level boxing, was difficult to expect Fury to win every second of every round. There was always going to be tough periods and moments to survive. Fury is not perfect, nobody is. But he’s the most rounded heavyweight at the moment by some distance. The way he got up each time against Wilder is remarkable, it has to be said.
We’ll see how it evolves next. We have Whyte v Wallin next and then probably Usyk v Joshua in early 2022, what does Fury do and when does he fight next. Also some other fighters slowly coming up in the conversation. Fury will need a bit of activity now, IF he’s not retiring (I don’t think he will yet, but just needs a deserved break now with his family). I guess it could be him against the winner of Whyte/Wallin (who gave him arguably his toughest fight to date) and then fight the winner of Usyk/Joshua.
It’s almost as if getting your head caved in for half an hour isn’t the best for your mental health. I think it’s a bit silly to be criticising the behaviour of a guy who’s just suffered multiple knockdowns and concussions.
An amazing fight, both fighters deserve huge respect. Wilder showed great heart last night and was close to finishing Fury again. Fury showed the same and managed to outbox and outlast an extremely dangerous fighter.
No criticism from me for either fighter, an incredible display of heavyweight boxing.
Agree with your thoughts on Fury. Fury claims that he’s the best of his generation. Things can change quickly in Boxing but assuming he wins his next few fights:
then he’ll go down undoubtedly as the best boxer of his generation and possibly retire unbeaten.
Just a shame you don’t also have equally sensible views on the undoubted brilliance of Mo Salah
I can’t make my mind up on Fury. Clearly one of the best in the current crop but I look at his physique and the fact that he’s been bounced a few times already and I struggle to see him in a similar light to many that have gone before.
They have all been down. It’s heavyweight boxing. He is exceptional as a boxer. Average as a human being. I respect his mental health issues.
Size, bulk & skill.
AJ is good but static & manufactured.
It’s crazy how you hit your peak at 35!
Physically he is amazing. Despite looking like my dad in trunks.
I think Fury will be forced to fight the winner of them.
Am pretty sure AJ will win his titles back (not sure how he will do it).
What would happen after that? AJ vs Usyl 3?
Fair play to Lupita Godinez tonight, fighting just 7 days after her previous bout, a UFC record.
What are people thinking about Leon Edwards against Masvidal in December? 269 is going to be a hell of a card.
Gaethje/Chandler, what a fight that was.
Enhorabuena, King Canelo!
What a fighter.
Khan v Brook confirmed, February 19th in Manchester.
A bit of the crap side of boxing, should’ve happened, when, about almost a decade ago?
The Glass Chin vs The Glass Eye
Disappointing it never happened back when both were arguably in their prime. I might be misremembering but I always felt like Khan was possibly dodging a fight with Brook.
