But let’s get them back for a day or two, so they can all swap their germs before any lockdown.
Boris is looking increasing like whatever needs to happen, he’s the last one to cop on to it.
But let’s get them back for a day or two, so they can all swap their germs before any lockdown.
Boris is looking increasing like whatever needs to happen, he’s the last one to cop on to it.
Did he decide to close schools? I watched him talk yesterday on the Marr show, and he seemed very determined to not close them.
We have an announcement at 8pm but most leaks point to full lockdown, with schools closed.
So yes despite him 24 hours ago saying the opposite, he will do a U-Turn.
He is utterly incompetent, utterly reactive rather than proactive. God knows what is guiding him, but it’s not science or common sense… And sadly because of him in particular and his dithering people have died, it’s tragic on epic levels.
What guiding him is a simple question. It’s a question that he goes to bed thinking about, and one that he has on his lips when he wakes up. It frames every decision he makes and front of mind in all meetings, briefings and strategy sessions.
That question is “what is best for Boris Johnson”?
If what is best for Boris Johnson on Sunday is to tell parents schools are staying open, and then what is best for Boris Johnson on Monday is to close them, so be it. That’s all that matters.
How we’ve ended up in this position, with this fucking chancer in the top job is an indictment on all of us. If you were running a fair and even recruitment process for a middling office job you’d put him to the bottom of the pile. But somehow he’s ended up in the top job for Christ’s sake.
Yep and the absolute fucking irony of it is he doesn’t even want the job.
I think he’s lazy. So lazy that he wont even bother to look at the actual covid figures that are probably presented to him on a daily basis.
it’s only when someone like Starmer (for example) calls for something to happen (Starmer called for a full lockdown yesterday I believe) will he jump up and maybe think about it.
he is forever looking for the path of least resistance, one that means he can quietly sip his wine of choice, repeating the words “Boris Johnson, Prime Minister” trying to get the most impressive tone without any hassle from back benchers, the opposition or whatever.
Maybe if he’s just going to do what Starmer tells him to do, we can cut out the middleman and he can fuck off back to writing offensive novels about bumbling, philandering MPs with difficulty telling the truth.
Well, that is strange… the arguments he made in favour of not closing schools can be understood. They are the same than the ones I hear in my country: that the most fragiles in society are most hampered by school closure, that the psychological effect on the children and on their parents are devastating etc.
I can hear these arguments to be honest. In Switzerland, we’ve had an increase of 50% psychiatric clinics hospitalisations since the pandemics began. A lot and a lot of burn-outs resulted from the lockdown we had back in March-April. Probably, that rate must be similar in all European countries. So yes, I can understand the need to keep open schools as long as possible.
But it’s really strange to even imagine that he’d now suddenly put all these carefully elaborated arguments aside, and go for the exact contrary, just 24 hours later. I knew that Johnson is a strange/lunatic character to say the least, but doesn’t he have a team around him to maintain at least some sort of course?
We had that for two weeks now, it’s roughly what it take to see the numbers go down, and they are. Hope it will go down in Scotland too.
Also worth looking at the Torygraph article she quotes.
Fuck me.
Is she crazy???
unhinged? Quite possibly.
In reality I suspect there will be a time when Covid becomes like flu, where numbers are far less, there is an annual vaccination programme up and running but to even think that now is just batshit bonkers.
Russian active measures are behind all of this, but we’ve been through it pal.
Yes. Esther McVey is well known to be absolutely fucking mental.
She would have no problem doing a complete 180 if COVID only affected vacant blonde fuckwitted MPs.
The Torygraph article is a whopping Strawman. Nobody is advocating we keep everyone under restrictions until Covid has been eliminated.
Maybe not in the UK, but it is becoming an increasingly common view. Look at the countries that have managed it, and the state of their economies. It would now be a monumental task for somewhere like the UK, but at some point the game plan has to be something beyond a get-out-of-jail-free vaccine card. There are increasingly serious concerns that the variant emerging in South Africa is going to affect vaccine effiicacy, potentially dramatically.
That’s the issue in a nut shell as I see it. These people will not recognise the complete incompetence of how the UK response has been managed but will shout from the roof tops how others are able to achieve less restrictive measures and ask why we aren’t doing the same.
And Boris Johnson’s first couple of sentences are the reason why I feel the new variant is being politicized and why I won’t just take the government advisors at their word that this new strain is far more infectious. “We would be controlling this virus if not for that pesky new strain”. Like clockwork they pull out the card they’ve kept in their back pocket for a rainy day, which is today in the UK incidentally.
I think I will wait for actual evidence. An increase in transmission of the new variant in school-age children once they stop home learning and start going back to in-class learning? Yeah, no shit. I don’t even have to bring up the added problem of what season we are in.
The amount of respected scientists from various institutions that must be in the government’s pocket is absolutely incredible.
Had enough of experts?
I doubt they’d be controlling either strain to be honest.
