I wonder why infections have increased so much.
Those figures just about sum up people’s attitudes to life.
Or their attitude to other people’s lives
Have to be careful with the way things are being reported. It genuinely concerns me.
Our local press, drilling down on the premiers comments on a few occasions, have reported the following;
On a day where3500 people were meant to be isolating it was reported 800 were not home… errr… no, 800 weren’t ‘not home’ 800 didn’t answer the door, they might have been sick, elderly or just too scared ( my father in law, an isolating cancer patient with very little English would not have answered the door)
On a day where it was reported 10000 people ‘refused’ testing i reports came out that people were actually being offered to self test themselves and in some cases thier young children after being door knocked and having no symptoms, a test would have ( at that time) meant isolating for an unspecified amount of time)
On a day where our cases in Victoria went from 11 to 28 new cases it was reported on a local media Chanel of the concern of our cases ‘almost tripling overnight’ EDIT- just to clarify and note our target to get to next stage of releasing some of our lockdown is 30-50 cases averaged over a 14 day period, ( amongst othe things) so the 28 figure was still a positive number in the modelling, not that you’d know it if you just watched the news.
Now we are hearing murmurs of people ‘refusing’ the vaccine, as redfanman rightly points out, most people aren’t refusing the vaccine, they’ll be mistrusting the vaccine.
Very different.
And to add to that, it’s not effective some years. Not sure if that’s because you might have got a another strain, or the vaccine is just not that effective on the targeted strain, or a combination the above. Don’t know a huge amount about it.
Without knowing the details, I must say Victoria has so far successfully contained the 2nd wave again, despite the widespread criticisms from the citizens and even the federal government, at least bringing the infection levels down to low double digits. And I am glad for my friends in Victoria and also @DeathOrGlory who so far is the only forumite I met in real life in Melbourne, hope all is good with you. (I have been laid off my current job, so might not have a chance to visit Melbourne regularly from now on)
But I hope the best for Australia, its important to keep reading good news rather than digesting all the negatives ones being spouted out all around the world.
EDIT: I just realized you might not have been talking about Victoria in Australia (but it also happens that Vic in OZ is also managing their 2nd wave pretty well with low double digits now)…but my last statement is true everywhere, keep digesting good news instead of the bad ones hurhur
Regarding Vaccines, even in Singapore, where the government is highly trusted in most of the time, I personally will not take the vaccines at the very first instance. Nothing against governments, but the vaccines with it being rushed out, I cannot trust it in the first instance and I would adopt a wait and see attitude to it. As with technology, I would never be an early adopter or first mover hurhur
Hey buddy! I’m OK here, just a bit bored of staying inside ya know! All my family is down in Tassie so they’re all fine as well.
Sorry to hear about being laid off. Hopefully one day in the future we can go to the Imperial again and catch a game.
Defo talking about vic in oz
If given the chance i doubt many outside of Russia would be rushing into taking Putins covid vaccine.
Luckily for the Russians they live in a fair and democratic society and can refuse the vaccine as well.
I’m actually stunned by the high percentage of people willing to take it at this point without any further questions asked. As for the reported fifth of people having a critical attitude towards a product which might be rushed to the public for political and economic reasons, I fully understand them to be fair.
I expect much of that 49% may not understand that it is being rushed.
Tbh I probably would have answered ‘yes’ too, since it says ‘very likely’ and not ‘no questions asked’, just to signal I have a positive attitude towards vaccination in general. I would have thought that wouldn’t mean ‘any rushed shite under any circumstances’.
Without having seen this particular survey, but the outcome of these always have so much to do with how the questions are asked/the wording and how you perceive them.
For the first time, as I arrived at the office this morning, the receptionist pointed one of those temperature readers at my forehead. Actually vaguely impressed by that, even if it isn’t foolproof.
Couldn’t help myself, sorry
Is it a laser?! Genuinely no idea! It may as well be magic!
Doubt it. I suspect infa red light but I couldn’t resist the opportunity to post a Dr Evil Laser Gif when referring to an office of law practitioners.
Well it looks like the second peak will be higher than the first here in the UK. Part of that is undoubtedly down to more testing but I also think we’re basically right back to where we started before this whole thing kicked off.
I also note that deaths are also climbing now. While they’re not in any great numbers (yet) the steepness of the curve is basically as it was for the first wave.
It appears we’ve learned nothing.
The US also seems to be climbing slightly again with several states (Texas) climbing quite rapidly
Ask her to take it 3 times on monday in quick succession. Unless it’s a good one, you might as well use a metre stick.
