The Corona Pandemic

I would say successful rather than progressive and inclusive. I think @Lowton_Red has it right. They do what is necessary to win.

Labour seem to self destruct at every opportunity.

I can’t be racist, my chancellor of the exchequer is Indian?

It’s a bit more complicated than that, and you don’t get to claim the Tory party isn’t racist because they appoint a couple of black people to the cabinet.

This is the same argument that the Tories made when challenged on their record on racism - Look at Rishi Sunak! Look at Priti Patel!

Big round of applause for letting some black people in the old boys club, but no way does it counterbalance the tsunami of racist policies and actions that the Tory party have been responsible for over the last few decades, nor the gulf that has grown between rich and poor that affects BAME people much more disproportionately.

OK, not sure who made these claims that you’re now arguing against, certainly wasn’t me.

Announcement from the Netherlands…all cannabis cafe’s to close except for takeaways and deliveries!!!

Shit getting real in Florida. While Trump held a huge rally here in Orlando two days, which DeSantis attended and was masklessly going through the crowd high fiving people, the University of Florida football team put a halt to all football operations due to positive tests. That’s about as serious as shit gets in Florida.

Boris is so March 2020.

“We have the highest amount of testing in Europe which helps us to know where the disease is surging.” Wow. So we know to, what, set up more Nightingale hospitals in the regions that are surging?? Not to do what other countries have been doing for months which is to use the testing and tracing to limit the spread by tracing close contacts so that we dont need to sacrifice our health workers after we’ve completely and utterly lost control?

Clever boy Boris. Now go back and play with your coloured blocks.

Unbelieveable that there are actually people on this forum that voted for this bumbling lunatic.

19 positive tests in a population of perhaps 150 over a just a few days is either a very serious cluster, or a startling rate of incidence in the broader population.

Just goes to show how fucking awful the alternative was :stuck_out_tongue:

Anyway…I note that no country in the world with a population of more than 10 million tests more than the UK (per capita). We now also have hospital capacity and icu beds, as well as enough PPE. I agree that all these things could and should have been delivered sooner.

What we seem to lack (other than a vaccine!) is a properly functioning track and trace system. That’s just pathetic that this is still a disaster even now. Is this Dido Harding’s remit?

There are some questions around that too, due to the UK’s proclivity for reporting capacity plus some sort of action (such as mailing it) as a test. It still is not clear exactly how many individuals are tested, have their tests processes, and a result of positive/negative returned.

That said, the real failing is integrating the tests into the track and trace system.

On a related note, fairly scary to see that Merseyside is at 95% hospital utilization now, not sure if that is with or without overflow capacity.

Definitely. I’ve been randomly selected for a survey to find out what % of the population might have coronavirus antibodies. I’ve jumped at the opportunity to take part.

They’ll then take that data and do nothing of any utility with it. But it will be good data and might look nice on a graph in about a month’s time.

We’re all fucked, but you guys in the UK continually seem to get the worst of all worlds.

You’re right but it’s really difficult what with coronavirus enjoying freedom of movement. However, come 1st January we’ll be able to stop it at the border.

I think likely the latter, exacerbated by the former.

too late IMO but at least it’s a start. How you police it is another matter.

To quote a Conservative party member
"But Welsh Conservative health spokesman Andrew RT Davies said the Welsh Government’s “unhealthy obsession” with “‘banning the English’ flies in the face of all the evidence”.

If the pleb actually woke up he’d see that there’s actually evidence that spikes in some Welsh COVID cases have been directly linked to travel from high risk English areas.

Imagine what we’d know if we had a proper track and trace system in place?
