At the recent Springsteen concerts on Broadway nobody was allowed entry unless they had been fully vaccinated as per the approved vaccines. Unfortunately the AZ vaccine was not on the US “approved” list. This gave rise to bullshit stories like " Springsteen refuses fans who have taken the Astra Zenica vaccine" The theatre management had to draw a line as to what was an approved FDA vaccine and what was not. AZ was, at that time, not approved in the US. The theatre owners eventually saw sense and allowed AZ vaccinated customers in.
It raises an interesting question though - Will entry to venues / airlines / countries even, be dependent upon an approved vaccine list. Would somebody fully vaccinated with say the “Sputnik” vaccine be allowed into venues / events in the US for instance?
Secondly, those that choose not to be vaccinated for no other reason than they have been convinced by some whacked out conspiracy theory, deserve to be excluded.
Horrific scenes from London being shown in Norwegian media today. A mob trying to storm the BBC due to them (anti vaccine) spreading disinformation about Covid (according to the activists). Frightening to see this many gathered for this cause in the UK.
We can of course discard these as morons and ignore them, but I think this sadly shows that the number of people sick and tired of restrictions are approaching critical mass and that these anti vax morons are just the tip of the (or the stormtroopers of) iceberg. Very worrying scenes. And similar problems and scenes are also now happening in Germany and France (the first more worrying than the latter since France has old sociopolitical problems that tends to contribute to scenes of anarchy).
I worry that the liberal democracies of the West have lost or are losing the battle to persuade an increasingly large part of the population that restrictions, and worse, vaccines, are more helpful than harmful. This could lead to all sorts of sociopolitical problems and greatly widen the chasm between people in society and therefore greatly weaken our states in competition with autocracies and the message they pander around in their propaganda.
I think you’re being a bit over pessimistic. Firstly, I haven’t heard anything about rabid mobs here in the UK. Maybe they are out there, but it’s not headline news. There have been stories like that all through the pandemic, so it’s not that novel. More and more deniers are getting sick, and it’s pretty persuasive when a friend or loved one is affected. This is bound to change opinions. The more that the negative side of not vaccinating, and the benefits of vaccination become apparent, the fewer people will be against it.
I see worrying trends also in Norway tbh. Outrage against restrictions are rising. Thankfully, our number of actual anti vaccine people are not that many at all; but the opinion that we now should just live with the virus and no longer combat it, is more and more dominant (though admittedly, these people are of course the loudest among us).
As for the scenes in London, perhaps exaggerated. I have just seen video from the Norwegian media. Hard to say how many it actually was that tried storming the BBC, there was no actual bird view, so it could be 100-200 or it could be more. Besides, Norwegian media had the video clips from the Independent and that is a sensationalist paper I admit. Others in the UK will know more. But my point is not actual these morons but the trend they represent in Western countries. The rebellion we see even in Germany, yes, that worries me.
Regarding pessimism in general, maybe I am. But I worry anyway
Proportions were blown up by the Independent. The first video clip I saw only showed an attack, so my bad. The longer version of the video shows that it is only relatively few trying to storm the BBC studio.
They begin “assaulting” police at circa 0:40. But it is not as big of an event as I thought. Still news worthy though, but far less so than I thought.
I don’t think it was, after having seen the full video clip. They used a very short clip, only showing what seemed like a lot of people pushing at police immediately. I don’t the the ones that attacked police, trying to get in, were actually that many now in hindsight. So I apologise for being dramatic.
One reason why the BBC hardly mentioned much about nothing is that they are no longer even in that building
I didn’t realise this. Probably that mob didn’t either !
The demonstration headed by Piers Corbyn? The same Piers Corbyn recently filmed accepting a ten thousand pounds donation to go easy on criticism of Astra Zeneca?
There really is no limit to the stupidity of these people. Which I suppose we should be grateful for. They might be dangerous if they had a clue.
I’m still slightly baffled that these guys, like Corbyn are so ready to invest themselves into the lies etc. without a speck of guilt or remorse. It must be exhausting. I assume of course that they know they’re spouting BS. They cant be that bat shit can they?
