Maybe someone who follows Pakistan cricket more can explain better , I don’t watch Pakistan cricket too much. Only see their highlights when they play tests.
But they are progressing to have a worse downfall than the Windies. And for a country which has the second largest cricket watching population, it battles.

Never seen an umpire give someone out when the players didn’t even appeal.
Was a fair dismissal and a great decision. But there wasn’t an appeal.

Not a great advert for test cricket so far. Cox shapes up well though. Lawrence, despite a few runs, is not a test cricketer. Like many before - scores at county level. Not the technique for the top.

I didn’t see it. No appeal , no decision regardless if out. Law 31.
At the same time, any appeal no matter how small or which fielder counts as an appeal. Is it possible a fielder out of view appealed politely?

Maybe a half appeal at best. Even the umpire was doubtful on whether it was an appeal or not.
They were a couple of hands in the hair. But the Pakistanis didn’t look like they believed it was out.
The umpire retracted his finger back almost instantly we if he knew he jumped the gun
There was a shout but it wasn’t from the keeper, who would ideally be the best person to know whether the batsmen feathered it considering he caught he ball

I think the laws need to be clear on this. In catches, only the bowler and the fielder involved in taking the catch should be the ones whose appeal needs to be considered.
Any appeal no matter how small is an appeal. Which wicket was this, by the way. I’d like to have a look at it.

That’s an appeal and in response to the next post, the laws are quite clear on the appeal. Can’t just have the wicketkeeper and bowler appeal, as just evidenced.
I’ve just watched it. That’s definitely an appeal by the slip fielder and bowler. Also, it wasnt the faintest of feathers, not sure why Cox looked so bemused. Umpire did brilliantly.

Was a great decision by the umpire. Take it he comes from your neck of the woods.
But the fact that he withdrew his finger immediately makes it slightly off.
If he was confident there was an appeal , he should have stuck by his ruling.

The appeal from the bowler was a half appeal and rizwan who generally appeals when the ball is miles away from the bat is nowhere in that.
Its a mismatch right now. England aren’t a really good test team and they still are beating this Pakistan side easily.
And a good comeback by Bangladesh. Restricted Australia quite a bit.
They’ll still end most probably losing the match but it really does matter on how they lose the match.

He did stick by his decision hence it was reviewed. An umpire overturning his decision is signalled by him/her crossing his arms over his chest which is not the case here. Putting his finger down quickly is not a thing, that’s purely subjective. Also there isn’t really anything as a half appeal in the Laws, that’s just a commentary phrase. Any appeal by the fielding team from any position is an appeal. The slip and bowler appealed, it is very clear.
