On a pitch which is turning loads, the most dangerous ball will be the one which doesn’t turn. Here, the problem is that the straighter ones weren’t arm balls. These just took deviations from the wicket based on the position of the seam when it struck the wicket. This is almost impossible to pick and adjust. Hence, makes the contest between bat and ball uneven. Even if the batsmen picks the ball well out of the hand, There’s no guarantee on what the ball is going to do
The Chennai wicket in the second test was fair. This one isn’t. If this goes on , you’ll see spin bowlers bowling cross seam in India and there’s no talent involved in getting wickets there. I’d like to see batsmen work for their runs and I’d like to see bowlers work for their wickets.
Also will say that the England team selection was fucked.
Let Moeen go back & then start this wicket (which in prev FC games has shown to be favouring spin) with only one specialist spinner. There were a lot of things wrong with that team selection
Tell me what Broad offers in Indian conditions? Zero. He should be nowhere near the team.
HIs batting has become an embarrassment. Not because he got hit and lost confidence. Because he genuinely shows no fight or application - and that is unacceptable even if you have confidence issues.
Personally its pretty close to time to move on from him. Stone offers way more.
Agree. I think the dilemma with respect to broad is that jimmy , while being remarkably fit for his age , is gonna retire soon. That can be hastened by an unfortunate injury as well…
The selectors clearly want to keep broad involved so as to ensure theres still a senior pacer leading the attack in case jimmy does get injured serious enough to mandate an early retirement. With jimmy touching 40 , any injury or setback is gonna hurt england especially with the recuperation times only getting longer
It’s remarkable Jimmy is still there, I think the mindset of Broad and others is I can keep going but players are unique, some players are done at 32 others can play to 37/38.
The lack of a third seamer is costing England dearly. Basically, with Stokes exhausted, and Bess imploded, it’s down to Jimmy, Leach and Root.
Selection has been abysmal this tour.
