Even me attempting the off spinner on the concrete with a hard tennis ball would have gotten more spin than what was available on this one.
this is where you look after only one side of the ball to get it to start reversing. however thats not much if an option as neither side has proponents of reverse swing or express pace.
Bowl spin against Pant and play on his weaknesses. His lack of patiencr being the most telling one.
Pack the field on the off side and force him to hit against the turn. He might hit some 3-4 boundaries but he’s liable to misread the flight and hole out too.
He’s pretty patient against the fast bowlers. Not so against spinners.
Siraj can reverse the ball. The lush green outfield won’t help the reverse. Plus there’s every chance that the ball has gotten out of shape with some of those hits.

Too afraid of getting hit. The best spinners aren’t the ones who bowl flat because they get taken for runs.

I think the plan is to get Pant to slog across the line. But Bashir is bowling too defensively and too outside the off stump. He needs to pitch it where Pant is going to take the gamble.
basically this incarnation of Edgbaston, with this weather, is a bowlers’ graveyard.
just roll out the bowling machines. you have to program in one over at a time. let’s see who can do that the best.

He’s got a touch of Sehwag about his play w.r.t backing himself but the difference is Sehwag knew which deliveries to go after. And he never got done against spin.
The Indian team should be asking Pant to have a look at Sehwag and how he approached playing spinners.
Predetermining the deliveries isn’t done at this stage.
There’s nothing brilliant about scoring runs on this pitch against these bowlers.
If this is England’s bowling attack for the Ashes it’s going to be carnage.

I think the unseasonal weather probably was a huge factor in making these pitches concrete.
When’s the ashes? If it’s in the December / January times. They can probably produce enough to make the ball seam a bit.
But this England bowling attack is worrying. Even if it’s with Archer.
Assuming that the ashes is in England. If they are being held in Australia, you guys are screwed.
