Anyway, about the cricket, a good recovery by England after the usual shenanigans.
Root played beautifully and Brook was unusually sober, apart from walking straight into the short ball trap.
I really hope they both get their centuries, but most especially Root, who probably won’t get another chance in Australia.
The Aussie bowlers will be fresh in the morning, and if they make an early breakthrough, they’ll fancy their chances of getting England out for under 300. I’d say 350 is par on this pitch, so the game’s still very much in the balance.
Cricket does itself no favours on days like that. Should have had another few hours of play. No real demons in that pitch as of yet, would be disappointing if either of them misses out on a ton.
What’s the weather like today @Bekloppt ?
Looks like it’ll be fine until about 2 and then some cloud. Temps in the mid twenties.
Yesterday no rain was forecast and then we had storms, so we’ll see, but looks good so far.
Might watch til Lunch then
It’ll be a crunch session. If this pair can put on another 50+ It’ll look good for England, but a couple of early wickets will bring the Aussies right back in it.
At this stage all I want is a Root ton. Anything else would be a bonus.
Just what I feared.
I reckon 1 more wicket here during Starc’s spell could really shift the momentum.
EDIT: wtf is Stokes angry about? That he’s out to Starc again? Or the actual decision?
I was dubious when the Aussies went up for that catch against Stokes, and wasting an appeal. Which goes to show why Steve Smith is the acting Australia captain, and not me. ![]()
Angry with himself.
It’s a good example of the difference between the teams. Australia have an attack that can wrest back the initiative with consistent high class bowling.
England never keep up pressure like that.
Brilliant by Root.
So happy for him. Don’t care about the rest of it really.
Same. Lost a lot of interest due to all the Bazball nonsense but it’s been great watching Root climb the list of all-time runs scored.
Unbelievable!
The stupidest shot to the crappest ball by the worst bowler I’ve ever seen.
Stokes’ demise as a batter is not spoke about enough, he’s been utter garbage for a while now.
Jamie Smith, that shot may have sealed his fate. Proving again there isn’t a lot going on between his eyes.
I don’t think that England have such an embarrassment of riches that they can afford to jettison someone with Smith’s natural ability, but he needs to learn from these errors, and I’m not convinced that this group are good at learning painful lessons.
If this Australian batting line-up doesn’t get 500+ on this pitch against this English bowling attack it will be a scandal.
Rubbish bowling by England.
Total waste of the new ball.
It’s nice to see myself being quoted by the BBC.
