Why is the Test Match only starting tomorrow? Surely they’ve missed a bit of a trick to have bumper crowds yesterday and today as well.

If I remember correctly, I seem to recall in the 80’s New Years Day would be a 1-dayer, Then the teams would have a couple of days before the 5th test

Agreed. Had some amazing days in my early-20s at the G during those.
And one of my earliest cricket memories is sitting on the floor at my Nanny’s house in Brisbane watching ODIs against the Windies (Viv Richards) era.

There are some dark clouds on the horizon.
20 mins later - getting pretty murky.
We’re about 20 mins walk from the SCG and it’s plenty bright enough to play.

Ja that’s crazy. Cricket officialdom often make inexplicable decisions. I similarly remember being at a Test Match at Kingsmead with all of us sitting in bright sunshine after umpires had called the day off for light (after a subsequent uproar that evening they came out and said that shadows were an issue 
)

On the other end of the light spectrum, remember the final of the '07 World Cup in Barbados(?). No lights at the ground and with play suspended for light, which should have ruled the game over, four of the best umpires the game has ever seen conspired to get the teams back on in near darkness to complete a few overs that made no difference to the result whatsoever.
This after celebrations had started and the presentation stage set up!

I’d be really pissed off if I’d paid a couple of hundred for a ticket and the game was called off at 5.20 with at least two hours of good daylight left in the day (sunset is around 8.00).
