Do you Aussies sandpaper your taped ball too?
I could get the half taped one swing in late. Although sometimes lost as wide down the leg side
Thats what the half taped ball is for, swings like BoJo political policy
How is this kid only 14? Playing like it’s a computer game on beginner difficulty.
At least he kept a sense of humour about it. But in all seriousness, Hope he is not suffering from any perminent or serious injury.
Sort of keeping an eye on him since about a year now and am having the following thought process:
- wow, but it’s a one off and the usual sub-continent hype/flash in the pan
- Maybe he good but he’ll never keep it going, he’ll be found out
- err… the numbers are starting to talk
- I hope he pushes on and resets cricket
Still think it is a bit too early to really judge and at the same time this is a really dangerous period of time for him - the world is full of not so nice people and a kid with his talent is ripe for the milking.
Vinod Kambli serves as somewhat of a cautionary (?parallel?) tale of some who burns brightly early, only to fade quickly.
Nah, mate.
He probably chewed up the ball and spat it out.
I think one issue here is that, especially at younger ages, players develop at very different rates. No question the innings is very noteworthy but he’s not yet ready for real test cricket (obviously - he’s not yet 15!) but the key point here is he still needs to develop quite a bit to get to that level, let alone to reach the upper echelons. Now he’s ahead of his peers, right now, but one interesting difference with India at this level and Australia (which produces by far the largest number of quality crickets per capita) is that Australia doesn’t look at u19 comps as ends in themselves. They take a much LT approach to player development and seek to shield players rather than hype them. Developing your game quietly and your mental strength alongside it can forge a much more complete senior cricketer.
I’d suggest this guy will surely go on to have a decent t20 career. Anything beyond that (while likely and certainly plausible) is still quite uncertain. Resetting cricket is hyperbole beyond reasonable. He’s almost certainly not going to eclipse Tendulkar let alone Bradman.
Vinod Kambli had his problems with the short pitched ball and it was more of his golden period being found out. The real parallel to someone like Suryavanshi is probably prithvi Shaw. Someone who was hyped up as the next Tendulkar only to well fall well short.
He’s young. Even looking at the other players in the u19 Match. He’s still a good three years younger than them. But the experience he’s had in first class cricket far is greater. I hope BCCI takes a reasonable route with him and doesn’t impose him to the first choice game anytime soon. This is the time he works on his game and works on his weaknesses. All we know right now is that he’s a phenomenal hitter of the ball. But that really isn’t enough to cut it at the senior level. Let him have three years of first class cricket and further interactions with dravid / laxman and the rest of the academy level coaches for him to get to terms with the longer format. It’s inevitable that he’ll play a part in the IPL but I for one hope he isn’t exposed to too much cricket too far early.
I think it makes sense for the Australians to do what they are doing. But Indians were always the ones who looked to get in batsmen young. I’m not one to debate on the pros and cons.
And for someone like Suryavanshi be hitting 6s and big ones at that shows that he’s got the power game. Here’s hoping that dravid and co look after him well in the academy.
Looks like the choke act is true for Netherlands in international sport.
They should have won that
England getting whacked by Nepal so far. They’ll probably make a comeback but still.
Wouldn’t be a World Cup without England underestimating and making a tit of themselves against an associate nation.
That was a close call in the end

Kinda shame for Nepal.
Feeling a bit morose. The club I founded lost by run rate ( we us that to determine weather affected games in the local league) after the umpire kept the teams on in appalling light until the other team caught up.
I wasn’t there, I was playing for our Union team in the KZNCU Premier League (which I’ve mentioned before). We lost as well, keeper had a mare. Dropped 4 dollies, missed stumping and somehow managed to drop a catch and fluff a run out off the same ball to all 4 players that went on to make three fifties and a forty. Irony is he made a 50 and fucked off home quite pleased with himself.
Totally village all round.
Who knew that Italy play cricket?
There are associations everywhere. You can find triangular tournaments featuring Rwanda and Nigeria, for example. If you’d told me Scotland would be taking on Italy at Eden Gardens a few months ago, though, I’d have said you were on something strong.
