Well they lost 2 and may still not have got through if the game wasn’t rained off.
That was a frankly ridiculous innings by Finn Allen. NZ winning the toss was a big advantage but I doubt anybody expected them to dispatch what had been to this point far and away the best team so easily. Hopefully England can upset the odds tomorrow as well.
Don’t think South Africa have any chance.
Absolutely splattered!

Very disappointed in the result today. Second best in every department. Started poorly with the bat but managed to get something to bowl at, even if below par, but that bowling effort was shocking. Allen might never again play an innings like that, I’ll be bold and say never again for sure, but the bowlers fed him absolute pies from start to finish. They surely have more nous than that but simply looked shellshocked and devoid of any semblance of of an idea of what to do.
Ah well. Another major competition, another disappointment. Spursy for sure, unfortunately.
I like Saffa’s cricket. Even since the time of 92 world cup.
I do think you guys are on the verge of doing something great though. I’ve had that feeling before but the way your lot won the test championship, matters a whole lot than winning a 50 over world cup or a meaningless world t20 tournament.
And I’ll be the first guy to criticize you too. Just because , i was the guy heartbroken on the 92,99 world cups when you guys came so close to winning the entire thing. Especially in the 99 world cup
Come on, the Aussie cricket team wins so much they need the odd taking down a peg. TBH, they didn’t even take the comp as seriously as some others.
They didn’t take it seriously because they didn’t have a strong T20 team this time around.
Seeing as it was a record breaking innings, it’s likely that it won’t be repeated for a while. Sometimes you just have to applaud a moment of sporting excellence.
NZ’s bowlers deserve plaudits too. The SA total wasn’t enough even without Allen’s heroics. Sometimes it just isn’t your day.
Fair point regarding the winning.
I disagree regarding the not taking the comp seriously. It looked to be our standard T20/ODI squad, minus Smith and 1 of Starc and Hazlewood who seem to be rotating between themselves as to which one plays which series, and given they are both mid 30’s, I think that it is fair to give both of them the chance to take time off and recover.
The plan came awry when both Hazlewood and Pat ended up injured and missed the entire Ashes, leaving Starc the only 1 available for that series but the selectors had hoped Hazlewood would recover in time for the T20, which he fell short in.
The last time I can recall Australia having a really poor side was probably in the mid-1980s, before Allan Border and Bob Simpson got a grip.
Since then, even if they’ve had a poor series or tournament, they always seem to bounce back pretty quickly to maintain a fine overall standard.
It’s fun to see Australia have a poor tournament.
The fact they were struggling in Pakistan prior to this probably gave prior indicators too
Exactly. So they/we can’t complain when we go out early once in a blue moon.
I just want gone_kloppo to come on now
Game probably done already, having to watch this on mute as the noise/commentary is unbearable. Gunna end up being 400+ runs in the match which is a bit shite to watch.
Wankhade is always good for some runs. But yeah
Archer has all the tools to be a great bowler but is just thick as shit, gifted 60 runs away today.
England will be praying for heavy dew and that they can replicate some of the recent IPL scores here, for that to happen both openers will have to fire.
England in the poo right now
