The Cricket Thread

It is not helped by things like “The hundred”, which is a huge (egotistical) distraction.

There’s also the little matter of being paid a pile of ££££ for smacking the ball over the ropes instead of making 100 over a whole day.

As with all things cricket, balance is key.

p.s. wasn’t alluding to Gary - just wanted to clear that up…

Nar. He scored some runs, but is a big racist.

Also looks nothing like Rob Key.

Jack Russel Russel Warren Warren Hegg.

Useless cricketing name linkup for quiz nerds.

What happened to Finn ?

England team back to the 90s. Well atleast in the 90s , youve had gough. When jimmy finally calls it a day , england cricket team is royally fucked.

Yes.

Cricket needs all its test teams to be healthy and the demise of the England team is bad for the sport in general.
One can only hope that it leads to a radical restructuring of the game in England, but I wouldn’t bet on it.

They had their chance to integrate the asian community and theyve failed massively at that instead preferring to import players from SA etc.

As part of the reforms , while i am against quotas , it might be worthwhile for every county team to have an imcentive if they have a fixed number of brit asians in the team/squad. That ofcourse doesnt guarantee that they play but still.

The game is run by a bunch of upper class ex public schoolboys, much like the whole country actually, but worse.
The whole county system is a quaint relic of the Victorian age and needs a complete overhaul.

The indian system isnt much better. Wbat actually saves india to some extent is the sheer number of cricketers that are produced.

Same goes for every system out there except australia and nz.

Srilanka , Pak , Windies… All have tbe same old boy system

The only thing that would save world cricket right now is an amalgamation of the t20 leagues like IPL/BBL and teams from other countries with all players going on a transfer system.

Phase international t20 leagues out and have this competition with the competition being held in all the countries finishing all possible matches at one country at a time.

Have an expanded pool of players for each team (irrespective of country) so that the players are free to play for the domestic 4 day games / test cricket when called up for.

Have only the t20 world cup and phase out 50 over cricket.

Ofcourse requires a lot of cooperation from india (mainly) and australia but that can happen…

Looking at tbe cricketers who have come to the indian team , most of tbe performers have come in through the IPL

Bumrah , Ashwin , Jadeja , Siraj(even if he sucks in t20) , Venkatesh Iyer , Surya Prakash Yadav , shreyas iyer…and tbe list goes on…

No reason why this cant be expanded to other countries

Pujara

He’s phased out now. Past his best by date. He’s been incredible for India ofcourse but if you look at the numbers, Most of the current lot of Indian cricket around the test team have come from the IPL as well as the future players like Washington Sundar etc etc

That said , I do wish Hanuma Vihari (Someone in a similar mould to Pujara ) gets a extended run in the indian team. He was an unfortunate casualty of India sticking by Pujara and Rahane too long.

I know. Sadly, Pujara may be the last of his type of cricketer that we see.
:sleepy:

This is the Indian team right now. Barring a few who’ve been around pre IPL in 2007 (Ishant Sharma for example and the others like Vihari and Pujara), Most of the others have made their name from IPL performances.

T20 performances isn’t a barometer for performances in tests but it’s increasingly likely that some players who can play T20 is able to adapt to Tests. At the very least, you increase the talent pool.

saw a bit of Alyssa Healy’s innings…that was some display of batting.

England doing what India did in WC 03, win the toss and keep the opposition in
